Keith Olbermann Out At Current

At first, I was thinking this is an early April Fool's joke, but here's what the always reliable Brian Stelter from the New York Times just tweeted:

"I'm told that Current TV has terminated its relationship with Keith Olbermann... Olbermann will be replaced by "Viewpoint with Eliot Spitzer," according to Current TV."

And now there is an item on the Times web site to confirm this. This ain't no joke:

Re: Keith Olbermann Out At Current?

are we totally sure Keith Olbermann and Eliot Spitzer aren't the same guy? ???

As expected, Olbermann is going out in his "Scorch & Salt The Earth" fashion. He really has no place left to go that he hasn't previously infuriated and burnt bridges with. The Mouse is out because of his stint on ESPN. The Peacock is still licking their fresh scars. Murdoch won't touch him with a 10 foot pool, besides he all ready powered through FOX when they tried to make a national sports show similar to Sportscenter for Fox's regional sports nets and also had a brief appearance on FOX's MLB package. I don't see the Tiffany Network wanting to take on the baggage that Keith has ultimately become. If Al Gore's Current won't have you who will? Landing at Current was like falling through the floor into the basement yet Keith insists on grabbing a shovel and to keep going subterranean.

If he lands anywhere it will likely be XM/Sirius. Other than that, he may have to adopt the same model as his arch-enemy Glenn Beck and go subscriber based web-only. Either way, Keith's ego will never be fully stroked like it was on MSNBC. Those days are a memory. Keith might need to learn some humility before anyone gives him any work in the foreseeable future.

A part of Fox's new Sports Channel or NBC Sports Network or MLB Network or NBATV or NFL Network or CBS Sports Network.

1) HBO like Bill Maher

2) The Comedy Channel . He could do his comedy bits in a half hour show once a week or a sports show like Norm McDonald used to do

Boring boooooo for Keith helping Obama with cash helped Obama nobody on any news did that!

Kieth can always do a combination of satellite radio and shortwave.....that plus hawking books, videos and other assorted items online at hefty prices.

It's working out well enough for Alex Jones... ;)

Recently Glenn Beck revealed he had around 300,000 subscribers to his GBTV online TV channel. A surprisingly large number.
One wonders if Olbermann could do the same thing. It seems he can't work with anyone else so he might as well start his own thing and have complete control over.

According to stories at Mediaite, etc., he missed a lot of shows in Jan. and Feb. including
some important primary coverage. At one point he was told if he asked for Mar 5 off
he'd be canned. He took it off...disparaged the channel, etc. He's now planning to sue Al.

The one good thing about Olbermann being at Current is that you almost never heard of him. It was a nice break.

When will people learn that they are not more important than the stories around us?

Not really surprising. Remember this thread http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php?topic=204031.0 As they say where there is smoke...

So does this make him the 1st newsperson to be fired from 2 networks while havning the highest rated program at both?

There's no way this loser would ever get close to 300,000 subscribers. Fact he couldn't make it on Al Gore's channel and has been replaced by that slime Spitzer tells you all you need to know.

Keith Olbermann would be a shoo-in to resurface at MLB Network, or even CBS Sports Network. NBC Sports Network could also be a possibility: remember it was NBC's news department that he was dismissed by. The same NBC news department that had requested his removal from the NBC sports department ("Football Night In America") in 2010. That wouldn't be the first time he would return to an NBC property after a period: he had actually started at MSNBC back in 1997 before leaving for FOX the following year.

The ability to garner followers does not equal the ability to get along with co-workers. The former seems not be his central problem, the latter is.

Not sure Keith is done as a political commentator. I see some cable network picking him, though his options are limited. Sports is indeed his original specialty. We shall see.
