12+ Disclaimer: 25-54 is the money demo. Got it.
Buffalo's only FM Country station is riding high in the saddle with an 11.8. WYRK tops the 12+ Summer Arbitron ratings for Buffalo. It could be argued WYRK received a juicy "kiss" by way of diary placement/return from "white folks in the suburbs." Tough to make the argument when Heritage Urban WBLK, which appeals to a different demo, has its highest 12+ ever and places #2 with an equally impressive 9.2.
The story of the Summer book may be WBEN slipping to #3 at 8.3, down two shares from Summer '08. Could it be that listeners who consider themselves moderates or independents have grown tired of "Obama is the devil" talk that comes from local and national talkers on the market's only commercial news-talk station?
It might be argued that WYRK isn't an "11" station, that WBLK isn't a "9" and that WBEN is far better than a third place "8." Okay. It's Summer, the least important survey of the year. Still, it's a survey and it reveals a few things, especially in the way of trends. You can bet WYRK and WBLK aren't discounting the results. Regent must be thrilled, especially because WJYE is up too. Can you say "debt service?"
Hot AC Star is down to a 4.3, but up from last Summer and even with a weak 12+, could have substantial ratings Women 25-54. CHR Kiss is down from Spring 09, when it reportedly had a strong 25-54, but the station is up from Summer '08.
The Edge rebounded but still remains down from a year ago; same with WGRF, which is down only slightly from last Summer.
WHTT remains soft at 3.9, probably its lowest 12+ in more than a decade. Only one month of the station's flip to Classic Hits is covered by this book. Forthcoming trends should look better, but what happens when WJYE and Star go to All Christmas Music in November? All WHTT bets will be off because WJYE and WTSS usually soar in the Fall book with Christmas music which accounts for at least four weeks of the survey period.
80s based Classic Hits Jack/WBUF has a 3.8, its lowest 12+ number in a while. How long before pundits being debating the market's capability to support two Classic Hits stations? Could live personalities make a difference? Time will tell.
WWWS pulled a 2 share, beating 50 thousand Watt sister WWKB and only four tenths of a share behind WGR, which is down 1.2 shares from Summer '08.
Lots to chew on here, even if it isn't Persons 25-54.
