Kelly Bates

Great to see Kelly Bates get the morning weather job at NBC 10. She is one new bright spot in an otherwise dull market.

I she taking over for Dylan Dryer? What happens to Dylan Dryer does she take over the weekend shift Ms. Bates was doing?

I agree. I think she is very clear and concise with her weather reports. She has a more natural feeling to her when it comes to her chemistry with the viewer as well as Frank Coletta. I'm glad NBC10 went with Kelly Bates rather than Dylan Dreyer. Dylan always feels like she is unsure of herself or something, I can't quite put my finger on it.

Does anyone know if this is permanent?

I think they have updated their bios on turnto10.com ... it lists her as Forecaster for Sunrise and Dylan Dreyer for Weekend Sunrise. It also has changed John Ghiorse to 5:30 and 11 and Gary Ley to Noon, 5, 6. It looks like they are trying to portray a stronger presence in the weather department by overlapping Gary and John. Which I think is a positive step.

I provided this information a week or so ago when FTVLive reported the weather talent changes at WJAR. FTVLive reported the change for the 11:00 newscast was because of sinking ratings. I'm assuming WJAR feels putting Ghiorse on the 11:00 news will boost ratings. Personally, I don't understand changing weather anchors will do any good.

I think that Kelly Bates does a fine job. I'm glad to see her on a station that people actually watch. She did weekends at WLNE before heading to WJAR. Former WPRI, WJAR, NECN, and whatever other station's weather guy Jim Corbin is handling weekend night duties at WLNE.

The next logical step would be to make John Ghiorse and Gary Ley "Co-Chief Meteorologists" like WCVB has done with Dick Albert and Harvey Leonard. After all, John was the primary meteorologist at WJAR for 15 years before WLNE gave him the now-famous "Million Dollar Contract".

I may as well be the one to say what everyone is thinking, that Dylan was much nicer to look at, even if Kelly's "skills" are sharper.

What do you honestly believe Dylan was there anyhow?

Her looks. thats obvious.

She just sucks at weather...

But Kelly Bates DESERVES it ten times more then Dylan..even if she has the looks.
Edited by DJKRED52 on 11/04/05 11:42 AM.
