Kelly Clarkson - My Life Would Suck Without You

What's your initial reaction on this song? So far, I'm not getting very positive feedback and after hearing it for myself I can't say I'm surprised. If I were to rate it on a 1-10 scale, 10 being best, I'd give it a 4, and maybe a 5 if I was being generous. Vocally, Kelly sounds great, but lyrically this one's a BIG train wreck. The hook just isn't memorable. This simply isn't in the same league of the five "Breakaway" hit singles.

a lot of hype for nothing. the record is average at best. i agree her vocals are great but the song just isn't "since you been gone", etc

First listen... not impressed.  She needed a home run and this is maybe a double.

It'll get spins on hype and name alone.  Maybe it will grow on me, but I see it peaking quick.

I'm thinking this is going to peak quickly as well... it may squeak into the top 20, but I might be being too liberal there.

This song is now number 1 on the iTunes download chart. I think you guys might have judged a little harshly at first. It definitely has a "Since you've been gone" feel to it and it's been growin on me. I wouldn't be surprised if this makes the top 10 or better now

It's 20th in spins after 1 week in spins on mediabase. I'm with karson, top 5 sounds better

It's grown on me... and it's getting an instant response with the listeners (and it's #1 downloaded on iTunes). It's probably a top 10 record.

Then again I'm an ex-metalhead (back in the high school days), and not a lady. Does it make me less man or Slayer fan to say I enjoy hearing "Sexyback" now and then?

Slayer huh? Are you playing "Raining Blood" as a Retro cut on your CHR? :D ;)

This song is getting a huge reaction..Def top 10 maybe top 5...and if it means anything I really like it.

Well, you can't really look at the #1 on iTunes download chart as a true representation of it's popularity. The number one reason it got there of course is because of Kelly's popularity - people just bought the song because it was Kelly (similar to GWen Stefani's "Wind It Up" or Mariah's "Touch My Body"). This happens pretty much every day with big name artists now... Also, we did have a few weeks of repression to deal with which enhanced it's sales "position" there. Thankfully, we're not dealing with six weeks of repression as with the aforementioned Mariah song last year. As it stands now, it's barely #2 just above two non-repressed songs ("Gives You He11" & "Poker Face") and will probably slip to #4 in a day or two.

My stance on the song hasn't changed an iota - if anything I like it less now than when I first heard it... it still doesn't sound good on the radio to me, and unlike "Walk Away" (which I initially was lukewarm to before liking it), I just don't think I'm going ever to warm up to it...

While your opinion may not have changed, as a top 10 record, the audience seems to disagree with your assessment. Seems to be pretty successful to me.

I do agree with the iTunes assessment. If it's number 1 for a few weeks, that's something to be said (Coldplay "Viva" was number 1 for weeks before CHR really got a hold of it), but it's usually only a gauge of instant passion...not whether there will be any longevity to the song.

It definitely has the "Since U Been Gone" feel to it. My gut reaction after one listen is that Kelly was trying too hard to get that SUBG feel again. I'm thinking that it would crash and burn like "Never Again". I see "My Life..." having a little more staying power. Now that I just said that, excuse me while I go hang from a shower rod.

Funny, everyone thinks it will tank and it sucks...but my girlfriend (24) hates Kelly Clarkson and all of her past work.....but guess what folks.....she loves this track (even the 1st time she heard it). Now of course that is one opinion....but I am seeing this doing well, but still no Since You've Been Gone status.

Kelly has made a comeback with this track.
