Kelly McCoy recalls a crazy 94Q/Quixie Jerry Blum caper

This is a super cool story from former Quixie/94Q host Kelly McCoy (who also was on B98.5 for a good amount of time). Jerry Blum, the man who "WKRP in Cincinnati" Art "The Big Guy" Carlson was modeled after, once flew 15 of his radio staff in a private jet to NY with $300 each in spending money as a gift in the early 1970s. Like: wow!

And Jerry Blum was the consultant for the WKRP show, using his experience and industry stories so the writers could create plot lines for the TV series. Jerry was not at al like Art Carlson, as he steered Quixie to very dominant positions in Atlanta.

WKRP was indeed a spoof of Atlanta's WQXI. Interesting also that the real Art Carlson was for years head of programming at Susquehanna.
