KELR 105.3 In Chariton Sold to KMGO Inc???

Inside Radio’s Deal Digest —

Ottumwa, IA — Frederic and Carolyn Jenkins’ Honey Creek Broadcasting buys “Classic Hits 105.3” KELR-FM, Chariton from Thomas Palen’s FMC Broadcasting for $349,000. FMC also owns CHR KOTM-FM (97.7) and oldies/talk KLEE (1480) in the market

(From 1/12/09)

IOWA:
The owners of KCOG/1400 and KMGO/98.7 (Centerville) are buying KELR-FM/105.3 (Chariton). Honey Creek Broadcasting, owned by Fredric and Carolyn Jenkins, will pay FMC Broadcasting, owned by Thomas Palen, $349,000 for KELR. KMGO and KELR have similar coverage areas; KMGO has a construction permit for an upgrade that would give it a rimshot signal to Des Moines.

My guess is that KELR will become the replacement "hometown FM station" when KMGO completes their upgrade and moves to Des Moines.

Re: KMGO...the question is whether the 1500 footer ever gets built. Rep from Monroe County zoning says that KMGO got a two year zoning extension in August of last year. No construction has started. KMGO's CP w/FCC expires 11/20 of this year. Clock is ticking...

Also, KELR is never going to be more than an OTM rimshot. 1st adj. KILJ Mt Pleasant and more importantly 2nd adj KBOE Oskaloosa ensure that KELR won't move much further east. (unless the 2nd/3rd adj. protection standards get relaxed someday)

Hometown station for Chariton and Centerville, yes. But, I'd see KELR more as a replacement for KCOG 1400 in C-ville, not for KMGO.

Currently carrying a Classic Hit Format With Sports Broadcasts of The IA Hawkeyes & ST. Louis Cardinals, I wonder what programming changes are in the works, if any??? Hopefully some unique changes, not much to choose from in se iowa, seems like either classic hits, or country, blahhhh....
