KEMA 94.5 south of SA is upgrading

It looks like Texas Country KEMA 94.5 in Three Rivers south of SA is upgrading. Does anyone know how long they have left to upgrade, or when it will happen?
Last time I heard this station it was very low power with little or no announcements.

The application indicates it expires next summer. I don’t think there are any rules preventing it from reapplying if it expires, though.

I once heard KEMA 94.5 (or what I believe to have been KEMA) about 11 years ago in San Antonio. I don’t remember ever getting a positive ID on it, though. I don’t think it was a city grade signal by any measure, but a good car radio could pick it up.

According to this page the application to upgrade KEMA 94.5 just has a few months...

Last time I heard it in the summer of 2019, it was on very low power, with a playlist that kept repeating itself with just a few songs, and no announcements. I bet you someone with little to no experience is running it barely on with the music computer right next to the transmitter itself, but that's just speculation...

Judging by this video I don't expect much for KEMA 94.5.
What happened in 2015 when it sounded good for 3 or 4 days in April of that year was probably just a fluke or something. Anyway they have until April 30th of 2021 to upgrade or they filed the upgrade for nothing.

no point in sharing a 7 year old video from a known troublemaker

He was right though at the time.
And KEMA needs a lot of work. If it upgrades I'll be surprised.

Joe is a known troublemaker who stretches the truth and has been kicked out of several facebook groups for starting trouble unnecessarily and going out looking for s%^t to start

The ESPN 94.5 translator for KZDC has been off a lot recently... Anyone able to hear KEMA in San Antonio? I could not just now but maybe the antenna I'm using is too far.

They filed a new modification to build, at 132.4 meters up with 50,000 watts. It doesn't look like the current permit will be built in time for the expiration, but who knows maybe they'll surprise us all and get on powerful soon, playing this and this.

It is moving closer to San Antonio, yeah. This will actually be a decent San Antonio station probably comparable to 95.7 or 104.1 when it's on. It's from the same location as 96.9 KWYU is currently, while KWYU is half the power and a 3rd of KEMA's new height.

It is still so very fringe that it can’t possibly compete in the San Antonio MSA.

The same was said about 104.1 KSAH. Yet, a few months ago in the PPMs, KSAH hit 4.2.
KSAH puts a 60 dbu over nearly 6 times as many people in the San Antonio MSA as the CP for this station. And, since the HDHA area in San Antonio is on the southside, and that is where KSAH's signal has it's best strength in Bexar, one can say that they picked the best possible format on a limited signal.

As I said, KEMA is nowhere near what KSAH is.

It's better than KHHL at least though? When it's on, that is.

Something else to keep in mind with that 4.2 share for KSAH roughly six months ago is that, despite finishing in the top-10, it was 18th (among subscribing stations) in cume. The two stations on both sides of it were second and sixth in cume.

In other words, it wasn't getting ratings because a lot of people were listening; it was getting ratings because a small subset of the population was listening longer. You take the good news however you can get it, but the #2 rated Spanish-language station in November '20 wasn't exactly breathing down the neck at #1.

Another issue is that the FM is simulcast with the 10 kw AM on 720 which has excellent coverage of the entire market. As its ratings are best among persons over 45, this "ancient modulation" station may contribute more than we think. Since the owner has accepted Total Line Reporting, we have no way of knowing how much the AM contributes.

Anyone else ever able to hear KEMA since I heard it last in summer 2019?

All I was saying is, that when it was on at full power in April 2015, it was interfering with Alpha's translator in San Antonio, I heard kEMA coming in spiratically in north San Antonio, the translator vcovered it up mostly, but if I pointed my antenna a certain way I could get KEMA. However that was only when KEMA is at full power.
