Ken Charles Named Director of Branding & Programming at WSB

The industry trades are reporting that Ken Charles has been named Director of Branding & Programming at WSB radio.

Charles is coming from a similar position at All News KNX in Los Angeles. Years ago, he was brought in by WSGT to rescue the station following the Planet Radio disaster. He did a good job and momentarily stopped the bleeding. But Clear Channel's decision to end the 105.7 simulcast in favor of an additional revenue stream put the final nail in the coffin for WGST as a News/Talk station.

Hey Ken, I have an idea. At your top of the hour news, give us a weather forecast that goes past today in every newscast. Yes, I know we have apps, but their forecasts are often wrong. Let us hear the expertise of the meteorologist. And if there is hail in a thunderstorm, that is a big deal. Especially when our expensive cars are exposed. Or we didn't bring in fluffy.

The Weather Channel, since the IBM buyout, has become more of a platform for Big Blue showing off their Watson/AI expertise, at the expense of quality weather forecasts.

Do people still watch The Weather Channel???
I cut the cord a while back. I was at my FIL's last weekend, and just like Music Television doesn't do music anymore, the Weather Channel doesn't do weather anymore. It was all TV shows about natural disasters and climate change.

I do use their app and website, though...
