No one has mentioned this here yet but "Sources say" Ken Charles is leaving Houston for Miami. Supposedly the memo came out this morning.

nice way to cover up the source by "breaking the news" you are a total insider, don't try to deny it!

I thought Kevinc worked at Cox.

Isnt that how you handle a screw up? Promote them to somewhere else to get them out of the way. I can see that.

Welcome to corporate America at its best (or worst). You have to feel sorry for those on the receiving end of this transaction.

And fyi... I do work for Cox Radio part time and for Metro Networks full time. So no I'm not exactly an insider leaking info. But I do have friends who work within CC. They are my "sources".

Kevin (not Ken) Charles

Ken made a lot of enemies. Why? Because that was Ken Charles. He didn't care, he collected them. He was power mad and thought that being the big cheese here in Houston put him on par with other "noted thinkers" and so called power brokers on the planet.

Yeah, like hiring Pat Gray was a brilliant move?????

Ken is, was and always will be impossible to tolerate. Egocentric, brash, harsh, full of himself. His blustery arrogance attempted to cover up all his insecurities. And he has many.

But to his credit, he probably had a few decent programming ideas in his day. But what might've worked ten years ago, doesn't work today. Look at KIOL's sordid past if you have any doubts about that.

Not only that, but this go round, his biggest failure was his inability to stick his head far enough up Martini's ass.

Goodbye Ken. This fall from grace (and let's not BS each other; this IS a Clear Channel demotion) couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

I hope your adenoids do better in Miami.

Reports say he's from Florida. with family in Miami. Yes, Miami is a little smaller but still a pretty sexy place to be - and wild news market. And is it a demotion if he went after the job?

Clear Channel has a way of slipping problems out of markets and into others.

I assure you of this though, if things were fine and peachy here in Houston, Ken would be going nowhere. There were problems. The new Market Manager started holding Ken accountable for things he'd never had to answer to before.

Let's face it...Ken had a meteoric rise in Clear Channel's early days in Houston, but what goes up, must come down.

I'm not sure what happened, but if Ken asked to leave, he probably knew his time in Houston was limited. Perhaps choosing to go to Miami became a pre-emptive strike..he left before he was asked to leave.

Either way, I think the writing was on the wall.

It's trite, but oh so true...what goes around comes around, especially in this business. The real a-holes always seem to get theirs in the end. If only some of these people (those with talent) would treat people fairly they might move on seemlessly when their time is up. I did not know Charles, but through his reputation, he is clearly a major sphincter valve. The best thing that can happen to people like him is to be treated the same way he treated others.

He fired a successful morning show and hired a has-been for over a million dollars. The has-been gets his butt kicked when the successful show jumps to a new frequency. Ken is responsible for how many lost $$$'s?

Personally, I'm glad that Ken Charles turned KPRC upside down. True, it was a bad move to take Pat Gray off the mornings. It was a bad move to move Limbaugh over to KTRH. While Gray was off for just about a month, the audience looked and listened for something else. Some of those listeners came over to KNTH. Some listeners stayed with us and some left. Gray went to KSEV to be partially teamed with Ed Hendie. Gray is very good by himself. With Hendie, the time was shared. Again, more audience shock. That makes it a different show.

Recently, our emails have increased tremedously. Ken, thank you for helping Newstalk 1070 KNTH. Good luck in your future endeavors.

Look at that...the Kevinator breaking the story about Ken Charles right here on Radio-Info! Way to go Kevin!

Maybe when Ken moves to Miami, he can go on the radio in the afternoons (in the middle of someones show) and talk uncontrollably about some nonsense!

;D
