Rumor, unconfirmed: Ken Dito is departing KGO/810 for Xtra Sports 860 (KTRB) for mornings and as sports director.

Consider it confirmed... As the Sports Director who will be on during the mornings, NOT doing the morning show, which is syndicated.
Ken is a great radio sports guy...and deserves a fulltime radio gig. So I guess this means a 10:30 A starting time at the OC.

Not official and not confirmed until the contract is signed.

If they're still in bankruptcy, wouldn't the court have to approve a contract in order for it to be valid anyway?

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought KTRB was in a part of Pappas'...uh...business empire...that is not included in the bankruptcy. Regardless, though - I worked for a business that was under bankruptcy protection once, and they were allowed to operate more or less normally.

Llew is correct.

Wow! I didn't recall that KTRB wasn't in on the bk.

I believe the contract situation depends on the court. I was involved in a company that went into Ch. 11 a while back in another part of the country, and any contract over a certain amount required court approval. Some bk judges are much less hands on than others. Bk court gives a new level of meaning to the expression "forum shopping."

Bankruptcy legalities aside...my comment was supposed to be a little sarcastic...I mean come on, these guys don't even
have the ability to run the A's games out of their own studios...they were so unprepared to assume these broadcasts (or does that mean under-funded)
that they have to pay to use the old KYCY 1550 studios at CBS to produce the games...it just doesn't appear to run like a major
market operation to me, so the mention of Ken "getting" a contract, just seemed a bit of a stretch...

Now if in fact, they do choose do give him an employment contract...great for him! Maybe that's an indication that they
want to be real players in the market...which seems in little evidence....

BTW...On semi positive note, KTRB may have been helped by the A's broadcasts...since baseball has started they are up slightly 12+ (now tied for 45th) and 25-54 (tied for 41st)
in the latest weekly...they are 55th 35-64...but clearly...need to do dramtically better...to put it in perspective...they are half the 25-54 share of
KKGN (Green 960)

I may be wrong (yeah, that would be a shock), but I believe that the A's still produce their own broadcasts. The use of CBS' 1550 studio may have more to do with the A's than with KTRB, which is simply the flagship station on the network, not the producer of the broadcasts and other content.

That is true, but the A's produced out of KSFO/KYA's studios at 300 Broadway, then produced out of Clear Channel's studios when on KABL, and then CBS's. This is the 1st time since at least 1990 that they have produced somewhere other than the studios of their flagship station, unless I am in error (which someone will point out, if so.)

Mike's right. I was listening to a 1990 aircheck of KOFY (1050 AM, 98.9 FM and -- of course -- KLRS 99.1) on Friday that included Scott Sommers, George McManus and Ken Dito.

KTRB is now located at 300 Broadway, cohabitating with Ron Barr's Sports Byline USA (yes, the old KSFO/KYA-FM digs), so I'm wondering if the reason for the broadcasts being "networked" from the 1550 studio is because KTRB was just moving in, and it was approaching the time for the season to start.

Does that mean Robert Buan is still doing his A's post-game show from the 1550 studio, too?

I know they're now at 300 Broadway. I am just surprised, as the middle studio was set up to run the A's out of it after Gene Nelson's morning shift was over, that they aren't there (unless something has been ripped out. Haven't seen it in months, but it sure looked untouched last time I saw the facilities!) It just seems strange that they couldn't recreate the configuration in time to do the net broadcast from there.

I seem to remember local TV ads for KOFY radio with the slogan "Do you Dito in the morning?"

Congratulations to Ken Dito on the move to Xtra Sports 860!

Now maybe he can bring the "JT the Brick Show" back to the Bay Area air waves.

Oh yeah, that's Ron Barr's time slot...

... oh well, so much for that...

...never mind...
