Ken Kohl is out at KFBK

After 12 years, Ken Kohl has left Clear Channel effective immediately. At least that's the official word. The company memo inside the cluster says he's off to program with a broadcaster in the Bay Area --one in-house rumor had it that he was off to KCBS.

One version of events is that KK was not happy with Clear Channel's cost-cutting decisions --from Paul Harvey to the traffic plane to the limited salaries that ultimately saw his best talent leave the building for greener pastures. Those sorts of complaints have been kicked around on this board before.

Anyone with comments or other inside info?

PJ is right on the money, Ken Kohl has left the building!

A separate rumor (which can not be validated) poped up today that I thought I'd share. I stress the word RUMOR.

I've heard that Mr. Kohl might be taking a position at Infinity's new property, Hot Talk 106.9 FM. This DOES NOT seem likely that someone in SF would try Hot Talk again after the good ole' days of KPIX-FM, but it made me scratch my head.

Everyone is speculating KCBS, but no offical word has been given other then Ken is moving to a station in the Bay Area.<P ID="signature">______________

Let's be honest --NO one would've had success with those signals. Let's face it, there are plenty of over-radioed markets with at least a stick or two that would be better served if the power were turned off. You listed two examples.

Maybe you just don't like the guy. That's okay, a lot of people don't (which may have been one of the reasons he left the Sac cluster) but your examples are unfair.

Another talk station in SF? Geez! What is that now, 43 talk stations? When are they going to give it a rest down there?!

Pretty funny when radio in Sac is much better than Market 4

Re: He deserved it.

As far as success goes, he did a lot for KNEW and KQKE...Especially since he was given no money to build the Quake. That aquistition was strictly to keep Infinity (or others) from getting Air America. I don't think CC ever really believed in it...and it turns out they weren't wrong.

KNEW's numbers are better than the 12+ crap you see posted. They're beating KSFO from Noon to 7 M-F, with men 25 to 54...Your P1s, ladies and gentlemen.

I've heard all kinds of things about Ken Kohl...But, I hear a lot about
everybody...

I think we will see one new talk station after another until 810-KGO's grip on number one is broken. Hot talk on 106.9 will do quite well if programmed by Mr. Kohl without anyone looking over his shoulder second guessing his every programming decision. The management will also need to allow him to put on local hosts and do away with all these national shows, in other words put up a
station that reflects San Francisco bay area interests along with all the national topics! Presenting everything that is already all over the dial AM&FM will be a big mistake following this 60 million dollar investment on Infinity's part! But nobody said the company management was "Smart".

A straight ahead CHR will probably be much more successful in the long run though!

Nice to know you don't set your standards too high when it comes to radio.

As for 910 and 960 not having numbers. Go back to when they had some programming worth listening too. 910 actually beating an FM with the same format(yes, it was the FM's first book, but so what) and 960, I haven't seen their numbers, but has the Quake done better than the Adult Standards? A listener favorite...oh then again what corporation thinks of the listener anymore?

Hope you get the job!

YOU DON'T KNOW ME SO YOU ARE NOT IN A POSITION TO JUDGE WHAT MY STANDARDS ARE.
