Ken Korach Promoted To A's Play-By-Play

Although the team has not yet announced which radio station will broadcast their games in 2006, Radio and Records.com is reporting that Ken Korach will be the new play-by-play voice of the Oakland A's radio broadcasts beginning in 2006, succeeding the late Bill King.

Korach is no stranger to the A's or their fans; he's been part of their broadcast team for the past decade.

Come on, kids, let's do it!

I'll put a buck on KYCY/1550 and KIFR/106.9 (in combination) for the A's. CBS/Infinity is perhaps the most stable of the ownership groups right now that have a station (or stations) here that would be a good fit.

My reasoning:

* Clear Channel doesn't want the A's for either KQKE/960 (my #2 guess) or KNEW/910, if I'm interpreting everything I've heard correctly.

* Susquehanna (with KTCT/1050 as the option) is in the process of being sold and, without the new owners taking over until springtime, probably won't be in the mix.

* ABC/Disney may or may not be in the process of selling its O&O stations, which may or may not rule out KSFO/560, but then again...

* Who does that leave? Bonneville (KOIT/1260)? Salem (KNTS/1220)? Pappas (KTRB/860)? Probably not.

Next guesser, please!

Re: Let The Guessing Games Begin!

It was reported in either the Chron or CC Times a few weeks back that 910/960 were not interested. (sorry, to lazy to look up the link)

The Tribune said that the A's were planning on having an AM/FM crossover next year (link in a below post).

I think that pretty much means you are correct, KIFR/KYCY. It is the correct demo for KIFR. And, it is a great way for them to get some name recognition. I would assume that the A's would also be able to pick how much air time they wanted on KYCY for pregame, postgame, prepregame, call in shows, etc.

They could make it a mini-KNBR. Have Beane hang up on hosts. Get negative hosts fired. Only play positive highlights.

Sorry, I just could not resist.

If not the Dogz -- and why not, I ask you? -- then perhaps Wayne Hagin (god forbid), just fired by the St. Louis Cardinals (gee, I wonder why), or (hopefully) Doug Greenwald, son of Hank.

Meanwhile, Marty Lurie -- who was part of the A's pregame show on 610/KFRC -- will now host "Inside Baseball: The Winter Edition" on ... KYCY/1550 starting on Nov. 25. That $1 bet I have that the A's will move to KYCY is starting to sound better to me now, but there's no such thing as a sure thing.

I blog about this and other junk in The Bay Area Radio Digest.
