So anyway, I just tried to log onto this site as Ken Matthews that's me -only to find out...my name is being used...by someone else...I have no clue who...I'm sure there's another Ken Matthews in Topeka or Reno...I've never heard it in the Notheast let alone LV...then ...I couldn't get on the site because someone is using my e-mail [email protected] on this site....................
Dooood...that's my e-mail...I just dropped the B104 when they fired me.....the toughest thing about being off-air for just over 11 months after 26 years straight is...NO I.T. guy!

Thanks to the one person that cared to post positive. I heard Rick Michaels has some health problems...I hope they are not serious. It certainly never hurt Michaels & laynes' #1 25-54 adult numbers.............I believe Rick was #1 when he got cut...but I don't know the scoop. I never met Rick. I met Samantha several times. very nice in person. B101 is Lucky! how 'bout Ken & Kitty's return?!(who hasn't been fired from Cincy? that was my 6th firing)....never met them either. I met Becca & Malone at Outback a couple years ago...very nice people...Sam's gotta be 6'3"? Very pleasant. I can see why listeners dig them...especially in person...oh and one more I DIDN'T meet: Gene Werely.......saw him in an elevator once..I think.

The c-word...I can't believe I'm gonna mention it on a blog...CONSULTANT...yes..I'm doing that part-time.
and I'm a keynote speaker, humorist and event host.......it's like doing a morning show with no signal, no benefits and no PD.....but there is a demand....it's why I'm still here. And it's the first time in 20+ years I have slept in past 3:30am. I now go to bed later than my 3 and 6 year old. By the way, my 6 year old is the CEO
of my consultancy...young..energetic..great synergy...and he gets the whole internet thing. I haven't figured out a position for my 3-year old yet but he did just poop all by himself on the potty.....and you regional VPs know, that is valuable in any employee.....I'm thinking some kind people position. My wife went back to work part-time. So I have the honor and pleasure of being a part-time soccer dad, part-time Mr. Mom and an
adjunct faculty member at NCC.
anyone who ever heard the B104 morning show from Sept 1991-Sept 8th 2006 I like living here in the Lehigh Valley...that's why I'm still here...I know it's crazy and wacky..cause I only have 8 other states to compare it to...but what can I say......BUT I REFUSE TO SAY YOOZ!

Speaking of LV ratings....how 'bout em?.....there are probably only a hand full of people that read this blog that actually see ALL of them....I know Rick Musselman is one(another guy who uses is name). Somehow...and I think Mussels would agree, The Morning Call doesn't reflect an accurate ratings picture of the market. I'll take last book I had on B104...actually the last two are cool.
I'm sure Rick Michaels is happy with his as well....he and Samantha would often pound most of us on the adult front.

I've enjoyed reading radio.info for the past 11 months( since I got my 7th firing)......someone tipped me off to it......it's always fun trying to figure out who is yocco and taco,pacco, and bittersnitzel, wacky, and smacky...well ..you get the idea......

By the way, I was listening to your show on GPA, and I personally felt you did a great job. I called you twice in your short tenure there. Your show kept getting better and better and then.... you were gone!

I hope that someday you will get back on radio in the Valley, if that is a goal of yours.

Great philosphy on refusing to use the slang word Yooz. There are some bad language habits here that should not be copied or encouraged. People need to speak proper english or at least come close. A lot of the LV slang is annoying. I still prefer the Southern way. Y'ALL still sounds good to me.
 
What a joke...Nobody will ever do this here:

1.) Speak without talking about "mom"
2.) Refer to a group of people, other than you'ze or yooz
3.) Work without an attitude
4.) Not sue their employer when they get fired
5.) Stop talking about the mill
 
I strongly disagree! I do not do any of those things and I know many other people who are the same way. The old LV Dutch cheapskate mentality is dying! Worldy hipsters like myself and transplants are making sure this is the case.
 
don't worry bout him pickle... isn't it obvious what radio station he works for anyways??? i mean every post he has on here is negative .. UNLESS its talkin about his beloved ken and kitty. now i got nothing against ken and kitty, but when someone posts and makes it blataintly obvious thier a homer for a certain station.. kinda takes away its validity don't it?? mind u.. i think u guys should advertise wgpa all u want on here caus we sure know jolly joe ain't poneyin up any green for advertising you guys, i wonder if people would take the expired mayo ken spoke of?? is that really true btw?? lol sure would make for good story. lol

anywho.. i must missed the part bout ken talkin bout his mom, i sure haven't heard anything in the papers about him suin his former boss but i do want to warn ken and kitty ... don't be number 1 on the radio dial... caus it didnt' seem to do any good for ken matthews or rick michaels...

oh i got a topic for u maybe??? u think the radio station mangers egos are the real problem in the lehigh valley?? i mean think about it.. they keep firing guys that are number one in the ratings...(correct me if i'm wrong) isn't that supposed to be a good thing i thought??? just seems to be a little odd to me.. don't u think??? but maybe the funniest thing i've noticed is these other radio stations haven't snatched em up to improve thier stations. i guess the days of corporate raiding are long gone.. oh well.. just a thought.
 
There is more to radio hiring and firing than just ratings. In the end, it's still just people working with people. Take that any way you'd like to.

Somebody posted earlier that possibly the station managers' egos are the problem in this market. But on air staff is notorious for it. We have all heard the rumors about LV jocks whose heads barely fit through the studio doors. Maybe management is learning how replaceable jocks really are, and won't tolerate it any more.
 
yes i've certainly heard the rumors... but whenever you read the listener blogs, you usually hear just the opposite and so my assumption.. (forgive me for not knowing for sure) is that its been just that.. rumors.. and probably a bit of jealously. what i've usually found (from personal experience) is that middle management is usually the part of the organization that couldn't cut it in some form or fashion in another area of the business, and because of legal mumbo jumbo and bs political correctness.. they were unable to be fired and therefore promoted to management.. maybe in hopes that they would hate it in quit.. (never understood the logic in this but it seems to go on in many industries these days.) i guess what i'm sayin is.. every time i hear that a top sales person or a top air personality is a giant sized ego and hard to work with i usually think who's jealous? and isn't management's job description being able to successfuly get the most outta ALL your employees? and that in its own right means working with many personalities right? and big ego (some call it confidence) always comes with succeful individuals, its just that successful managers know how to stroke that ego and make it flourish... for example... jerry rice had one of the biggest egos in all of football, so did wilt chamberlain, charles barkley, michael jordan for that matter.. but if u were putting a team together and one of those guys was available.. you'd be doin everything u could to get them on it. and don't usually enormous egos berate everyone that they compete with??? in ken's post he even complimented the competition... and that's contradictory in itself with ego driven individuals isn't it?
now i'm not sayin ken matthews or rick michaels is michael jordan or jerry rice.. but when my wife and i had our first child in lehigh valley hospital.. the nurses talked about ken matthews when u brought up 402-CARES and said how much they missed him on the radio.. and in a conversation with a random person when they asked us where we were having our baby ... when we mentioned lehigh valley hospital.. they said.. oh yeah.. where ken matthews had his kids. outta the blue... now i'm a radio outsider.. but being a businessman... and with a marketing background.. that's enourmous.. priceless as mastercard loves to say. so i gues what i'm asking then is when u see someone who had success in radio.. for 15 yrs.. which is very rare in your industry.. and was still at the top of the game in the area get fired... if i was a manager of a competitor i'd be doin everything i could do to snatch that up caus it means instant ratings and instant revenues for my business.. and yet he's been basically blacklisted and all u read about on listener blogs is their tuning the lehigh valley out and philly in. u would think the guy was all over youtube in a home made video molesting a penna dutchy's flock of sheep or something?? (heck that didn't even get boscola's manager fired and what he did was worse than molesting sheep) so what really happened ???? i was a listener of his for years.. and when he went off the air i listened to mills and layne was it??? for a bit.. but now i don't even have a valley radio station programmed in my car.. its just gotten pathetic. and i appologize for rambling.. it just befuddles me all the politics that usually get involved with decision making these days in all walks of life. so bottom line me was it kens ego or managements napoleon complex??? thanks.
 
Bottom line? No one wants to pay for Ken Matthews or the like. Sadly, when you're experienced and you command a bigger salary, you will eventually outprice yourself in a smaller market like ABE. His options are limited if he wants to stay here. Ken's already worked for Clear Channel, Cheapo Citadel will DEFINITELY not pay for him, WGPA didn't work out, so that leaves Nassau, who are already paying for Ken & Kitty.

As far as egos go, radio personalities all have egos. Some are bigger than others. I think it's a function of working in the entertainment business - if you do, you had to get there somehow, which probably involved selling yourself to someone down the line. It ain't that much different than working in the corporate world - salespeople have egos, CFOs have egos, as do Vice Presidents. It's very much like high school sometimes, where the most popular person wins.
 
Yes.....but you also need to be professional enough and keep your ego under check and play well with others.
That's why there are ego problems, not because one has one.
 
you bring up a good point making waves.... and that seems to play to my point that its a management issue and not a ken or rick issue... as u call them.. "cheapo citadel" seems like they wouldn't know a value when it smacked em in the face. didn't ken have like some of the biggest ad campaigns in the valley anywhere??

yocco your correct.. and by definition everyone has an ego.. however .. not one single person has given me a single example or fact of what exactly ken did that started all the rumors of his ginormous ego here and when u check the topix.net boards.. he's still the most popular clear channel topic. and 80% is positive and bring him back posts... so still.. this shows its noting but rumors and bitter, jealous management.. if u wanna prove me wrong.. give me some facts to go by.

also.. i've never heard of a sales person being lambasted her for making more than management.. and what they are selling is the talent on the radio.. wonder why that is??

hey repti...obviously you're a fan of ken matthews..good for you....I'm sure there are a few left. It's obvious though you're not a radio insider...... regardless of topic, this blog is pretty politically correct. substance wise..not a lot of real info. when was the last time there was a scoop? It's a scary time to be in radio now....so people are not going to comment on much especially when they know the boss reads the blogs.

I've worked with Ken a while ago, and we've had our moments, but after we established our boundaries, we became civil with each other.. Good to hear the kids are doing great!

Anyway, Zep, I'm surprised not one question involved GPA or Timmer.. That'll get a rise out of the groundlings.. ha ha.

Ken: The WLEV answer is actually 9! That is, if you don't count one or two "transition" guys who sat in the chair for a few weeks between morning guys. Ashamed to say I was one of the 9.
