ken matthews on WGPA

ken matthews showing up on WGPA is odd. 8a-10a makes sense though. at B104 he was big on guests and phones. they probably did him a favor getting rid of him when they did, now it's liner cards into voice tracks. by the way,regarding the jarret brown post...he's on WGPA now..you're right..he is good! and the WGPA website is not half bad all things considered. mr. polka must have some connections.

So does Ken have to sell his own show, too? Boy, what a fall from the heights of number 1 at B104 to who knows what kind of deal at WGPA! Does he need to hear the sound of his own voice that bad?

boy if that doesn't sound like someone who's bitter??? anyone got something other than speculation?? i know his www.kenmatthewsmedia.com is doing real well. maybe this is just another way to promote that?? but how bout something concrete on what's really goin on. caus that last post sounds like a ron angle buddy or clear channel management and not someone in the know.

What the hell is wrong with that station? Polka all morning? Then talk? Then MOR mixed with real oldies, then big band? The station has no focus. Something worthwhile could be done with that signal. What a waste. Though, admittedly, I like the oldies on Sunday.

What is he playing durring his show? I cant imange Joe letting him play newer Top 40 or anything out of the relm of Polka or Olddies. There are 2 DJ's that I have knowen of that tryed something new over there and Joe did not go for that.

The stations format is fine. As long as no hard stuff like Linkin Park is played he does'nt care. WGPA is what it is and nobody is going to change it!

from my listening, it appears WGPA has a few times "tried" a steady format, but it was quickly squashed. a few years back, it was mainly 70s music (besides the polka of course). then there was a lot of oldies. now it's a mixed variety again. i have mixed feelings on WGPA's format. one side of me really thinks they could clean house my flipping to oldies full time. flip to oldies full time, put up some billboards, pick up all the disgruntled WKAP and Oldies 99 fans, and actually pull in a 3 share instead of a 1 share. the other side of me says why mess with success. if this crazy mixed and brokered format is working for the old man and he's making money, why mess with it. he's no teenager and he's probably going to sell within 5 years anyway, so enjoy the station the way he's known it and don't mess with it. so there's nothing wrong with WGPA. they're a little crazy, but it's better than corporate radio.

Repti: I am neither a Ron Angle buddy nor work for CC. I'm just a little sad that Ken would use WGPA to test the waters of talk radio. I respect his ability and experience as a top 40 morning guy but I would never mistake him for a talk talent of substance. And I do know people who worked for Jolly Joe and were told "You're hired. Now go out and sell your show". I think Ken Matthews could be working in morning drive in another market in a heartbeat if he wanted to relocate. But I believe his desire to remain in the LV coupled with his reputation for being a hard headed ego maniac have, so far, only allowed him to resurface on a station that most people in the Lehigh Valley don't even know exists.
