Today I heard an old lady call Jim Dallas and say the KDWN sale was a government conspiracy to silence the talk about illegal immigration. Jim was polite and explained that radio is a business and that KDWN is a commodity. He also gave some history of the station and talked about the awards KDWN won in their early days. He explained everything well, but I don't think he convinced the caller, she insisted it was a conspiracy lol.
It will be kind of sad not to hear Ken Stahl on KDWN anymore.(If Beasley does indeed fire the 76 year old). He has been with KDWN since they switched to talk in 1980. I can't think of any other LV radio personalities who have been with the same station for 25+ years. Then again, Tru Hawkins has also been there forever, If I remember correctly he was doing mornings in the late 70s when they were a music station?
My favorite host on KDWN was named Cheryl Godfrey. I loved her Libertarian political opinions, plus she had a very nice voice. From what I understand she had a major fall out with Claire when she was fired around a decade ago, I heard it was a juicy story, but I never heard the details.
I am also a major Roy Masters fan. He is by far my favorite radio advice talk host of all time. He is a brilliant man, I have a collection of his books. When I was a teenager, my heart would pound in excitement when I heard the opening disclaimer of his show "the views expressed on the following program might be shocking and upsetting to you, but if you listen with an open mind you might find the peace of mind and the answers you have been searching for...now from the Foundation of Human Understanding here's your host Roy Masters".
Depending on the format, I hope Beasley keeps Roy Masters as part of KDWNs lineup. They should like the fact that he pays for the airtime.
