Ken Stone, former WCOL-FM DJ

I was very sad to learn yesterday that my old friend Ken Stone, formerly of WCOL-FM and others, passed away in August 2005. Somehow I missed this, and I feel terrible about it. Does anyone know what happened to Ken? I don't recall him being ill, or anything along those lines.

Kenny was my cousin. Just a wonderful, wonderful guy.

He had a heart attack in February 2005, and seemed to have recovered OK, but then sadly died in his sleep of another heart attack in August, 2005. As you may know, Kenny -- whose real love was music more than radio -- opened Mole's Records on campus. I don't recall when it closed. When he passed he was selling collectors' records at conventions and online. He is survived by son and his sister.

They don't make 'em like Ken anymore. He was one of a kind.

He died shortly after the COL Reunion at the old Clear Channel on Rt. 33.

We hugged and hung on each other for 2 minutes. It was the first time we'd seen each other in 32 years.

The sign-on crew at Stereo Rock 92 was a very tight crew. And Ken was the Senior DJ. Bryan used him a lot as a go-between in management communications with air staff. Very smart.

I remember him pointing to the record on the turntable as he rapped. He was physical on the air and used his hands a lot as he spoke.

He was a good friend and colleague. And a big part of the most sensational anti-launch Columbus ever saw.
