Kenny B and Charles Richardson are back!

Kenny Burgamy and Charles Richardson are reuniting for a 6-9 a talk show on WPGA-FM, that will be simulcast on the Macon Telegraph web site and the first hour of which will air on WPGA-TV, the ABC affiliate in Macon. The partnership between Register Communications and the Telegraph brings the popular duo back to the airwaves for the first time
since Burgamy and Richardson were teamed at WMAC a few years ago. Neither Burgamy or Richardson will give up their day jobs. Meanwhile, things are jumping at Cumulus Macon. Chris Krok, late of WSB-AM, will team up with Ron Frazier to do AM drive on WMAC. Cumulus has been struggling with WMAC's morning show since Kenny B. and Jami Gaudet left a few months back. Frazier was brought in along with Shane McBride but as many of you know, McBride was cuffed by the police for a toke or two and was dismissed by Cumulus.

I thought WPGA was a pop station. Now they have talk? It kinda figures though. After meeting the folks that run that station they struck me as clueless when it comes to programming. Hope it all works out for them...

I agree with the "clueless" comment. I worry that WPGA's slipshod management style will kill Kenny and Charles' show. I also do not want Jami G's voice on their show for even a second. I think being in a partnership with the Macon Telegraph makes it incumbent on WPGA to get his act together. I wonder if a format change from "soft AC" is in the oven for PGA. I would let Cumulus handle the teeny-bop and 18-54 demographic (halfway sarcastic). In fact the resurrection of Kenny and Charles will be a bloody and broken nose for Cumulus. It makes them look as if they ran off K and C.

I'm waiting for Cumulus to go bankrupt. The last few news articles on Cumulus have some big players pulling their investments in the company. Let me know when the asset auction begins; I could use a mike preamp and some cables.

The morning show on WPGA is unlistenable and sure hope for their sake that this show is better. I can't figure out how people get on the air at the station except for nepotism. No one on that station has ever had any formal vocal training and it sounds like a total twang and drawl festival. It makes me wonder why so many of us who go thru formal training and practice good broadcasting standards when all they hire are locally found untrained personnel...food for thought, but more power to them, sure hope they get a clue, some day...

I think it's funny how the ones who come on here and post the most critical comments about others are the ones, themselves, who need the most help. I'm sorry, but that morning show on WJEP is one of the worst I have ever heard. It is a complete ramshackled production. Take the criticism and find another line of work. If you have to work in AM radio in Georgia, it may as well be WSB-AM in Atlanta. As far as I know, you ain't on the air staff.

The morning show on WJEP has not started yet, I am not sure where you got your info, but I find your posting a bit suspect and will refer it to the moderator...

Sorry, KT... I've got first dibs.

Save a couple of RE-20s for me. Maybe a phone hybrid, too.

Hmm; a phone hybrid; you mean it runs off gas and low-volt current too?

Seriously I heard from goodtimesgreatoldies he has his ear to the ground per a new FM oldies station. This sounds like something WPGA needs to explore- even if it's a syndicated Scott Shannon style True Oldies feed. It would go good with Kenny Bee/Charles and their demo.

Morning radio in Macon is about to get really interesting. I'll be anxious to hear the battle between two veterans with a great track record, and a controversial newcomer who will get attention. Now if someone could just coax Macon's best morning man EVER out of retirement (ELDER),
I would probably cancel my XM subscription. And on the subject of the asset auction: Cumulus, like all of the other companies, has already trashed the turntables, cart machines and reel-to-reels. And I don't need any more computers! Anyone know what happened to the old Maggie that Bill Powell used for his phone calls? That belongs in a museum somewhere.

If Rick Dees can be on XM, why can't Elder host a morning show....say on 90's on 9!

And Ben, I can get you a couple of Gates turntables, Fidelipac cart machines and a Otari reel to reel if you need them.

I am looking forward to hearing these two very smart gentlemen on the radio, beginning in September. Kenny and Charles are two standup guys, who know and understand the issues in middle Georgia. Cumulus ought to be ashamed for ever letting Kenny B get away! What idiots! Oh well, WPGA comes out as the clear winner in this situation. I wish Kenny and Charles the best and look forward to welcoming you into my home, car and office each weekday morning! Welcome back guys!

McClatchy, owners of The Telegraph, own this new radio/TV/webcast program, and they are buying the time from WPGA. A terrific friend of mine is selling this program for the paper and all revenue is generated for them. These are two smart moves. Expect lots of cross promotion on all platforms. If Register owned this show, this deal would have never been done. Macon media types know and understand why. Look at his track record. It's gonna be fun to watch this develop as Krok is now on 940; but for how long? He's a little too caustic for mornings. The 100.9 signal reaches Robins AFB decently but north Macon is another story. Their best hope for the signal is to drop the stereo pilot for the three hours of the morning show to make the signal slightly cleaner and louder plus simulcast it on the Radio Disney 1400, which Register also owns. BTW, Kenny and Charles will be on the second regularly scheduled Macon program in recent years to have been simulcast on TV/Radio. The first was 13WMAZ's 6p news on AM 940 and some other stations in the mid 90's. This would also mean they will appear in Nielsen and Arbitron for the same program, too.

BTW, is this the time for 100.9 to switch to an oldies-based format? Quoting from "Stairway to Heaven"..."and it makes me wonder..."

Maybe this is the way radio is going.

Here's the daytime lineup on 100.9:

6-9 "Macon Telegraph"
9-12 "Around Town"
12-3 "Macon Magazine"
3- 6 "11th Hour"

I can't wait to hear Kenny and Charles again.

So, how about this? Live. Local. Talk. The All-New 100.9...WPGA-FM!

Lowell wouldn't go for it. It'd cost too much to do properly.

It's so funny reading the posts on here in the past couple of days. It really shows how clueless and out of the loop most of you are. Most of the information posted on here is completely inaccurate. First off, the station is not called 100.9. It is, and has been for years, Mix 100.9. Secondly, Kenny and Charles' show will not be the second show simulcast on radio and TV in middle Georgia, it will be the sixth. Register already simulcasts three programs and WNNG and 13 simulcast a 5:00 news. Thirdly, FM talk is not new to middle Georgia. The Patriot, 103.9 has been on the air for a few years now. Fourthly, don't look for Mix 100.9 to go talk all day any time soon. B95.1 (then B93.7) did not go all talk when they put Steve and DC on in the mornings in 1997. And from what I hear on Blazin' 92.3, they are not talking all day just because Steve Harvey is on during morning drive. Anyone listen to radio in Atlanta? Most stations in the market have talk shows 5:00 or 6:00 AM to 9:00 or 10:00 AM and play music the rest of the day. Speaking of oldies, Cumulus ought to sell AM 1500 and put an oldies format on Z93.7. WPEZ is sounding so repetitive with John Tesh on all the time. They ought to look in to putting a 24-Hour ABC or Jones Oldies format on PEZ. Cumulus could save money, have a kick-a** oldies format on and still localize mornings with Paul and afternoons with David. Just a thought!

Re: Yeah, I said 100.9

Yeah, it's a "Mix" of no signal, no investment from the owner and no ratings. This station has floundered in Arbitron for 10 years as a satellite-fed format. There's no where to go but up and Kenny and Charles are 100.9's best shot to make any money in that daypart. K & C should do well given The Telegraph's commitment to go out of the box on this project. However, McClatchy is making the real money since it's buying the time and has total product control/ad placement.

The four minute, 100.9 news/interviews during Good Morning America on 58 do not get listed in the Nielsen television ratings as a program. Only GMA is listed and it doesn't set the woods on fire, either. Maybe that satellite-fed 7pm/11pm news via Davenport, Iowa is on 100.9 and 58 as a simulcast. But how long will that last? It has lots of scratches (zeros) in the demos of the Nielsen book. In fact, Tavis Smiley on GPB outdelivers the 11pm news on 58. Point is, Register isn't going to spend one red cent to compete on AM, FM or TV. Yeah, I'm clueless, but I do have the access and the ability to properly read a Nielsen book.
