Kenny Walker on 97.3

Kenny Walker will do great on Coast. I thought he was very good on Y-100 and while I listened to him on QAM, I never felt he was on the right station. Good luck Kenny!

So, Muzikboy, how do you know Kenny was "mistreated" by Clear Channel. He had a contract. His ratings weren't good. They don't renew his contract. And a few months later, when Footy's contract ends, he "retires." At least from Y100. ;-) How was Kenny (and for that matter, Footy) mistreated? Do you know Kenny? Have you spoken to him? Did he tell you he was mistreated? I always get a kick out the Jr Wannabees on this board who like to take shots at radio companies. Hey, often they are deserved, but what about this time?

That said, good luck to Kenny, Donny and Nikki - all good people and I can say from real experience, a pleasure to work with.
 
I love to be called a "junior wannabe" from someone who thinks they know it all! I'm glad that you can interpret my statement wishing Kenny Walker best wishes at his new venture. I know people at CC and yes, they have a bad reputation for mistreating their employees. The message in no way indicates that Kenny was mistreated. He was fired after 12 years at Y100. It appears that most of the CC DJ's that are terminated end up at Cox. What's ironic is that Footy "retired" from Y100. No, he was forced out of mornings so Elvis and the Zoo can be included in the lineup. CC hired Footy back on WIOD full time. Thus, I don't see Jon Kross as being mistreated.

I am actually quite happy to see Y100's ratings. It's about time people are noticing that there is a normal Top 40 radio station in South Florida that does not have to mix every song into a spanish rap. I am also a fan of Elvis and the Zoo being that I am originally from NYC and listened quite frequently to Z100 (which is now the arbitron rated #1 station in NY).

Again, i state best wishes to Kenny Walker.

You didn't answer my question. You infer that Kenny was somehow mistreated by Clear Channel. How do you know that? As I understand it. his ratings were poor and his contract was not renewed. How is that Clear Channel mistreated him? Yes, Y needed a giant over-haul and not renewing Kenny and Footy's contracts was the first of many steps that are, thankfully, paying off big time. But you infer that Kenny wasn't treated well by Clear Channel and I'd like to know if that is your opinion or a fact.

First off all, people will always say the big bad company was to blame....Kenny's contract wasn't renewed due to low ratings and probably because he was a pin in the butt (according to rumor) He was long gone by the time Elvis Duran and the Morning Zoo came on board in May of 2006. One did not cause the other.
 
The sad part of this story is one that is common with this business we've chosen to work in. A good solid jock, Bruce Wayne, lost his job even though his numbers and the day-part's revenue share was high.

It looks like the Coast is getting good ratings 12+ (Hopefully the numbers in other demos are good too). I think that it is interesting that most of the on air staff are veteran South Florida Talent. hmmm.. maybe South Florida loves hearing great talent. I can't hear WFLC but I hope that Cox is allowing the talent to show off their skills on the air, and they are not reading liner cards. Good luck to all the great talent at Coast.
