KENS 5-6 now local weather

Nice to see a local weather channel again. On KENS 5.6.

According to posts on another forum TEGNA stations that have a weather stream on their websites and apps are now adding it as a new subchannel.

I suspect KHOU and KVUE will add it to their subchannel lineups in the near future. WFAA already has weather on 8.2.

That's KENS 5 Weather Impact 24/7, their 24/7 weather stream. It seems interesting in this age that 24/7 local weather on TV is making a comeback, not like it ever went away, but it sounds like more and more are doing so, and TEGNA seems to lead the way, though Gray has a vast amount of local weather streams online for their stations.

The added weather subchannels don’t eat up much digital bandwidth as most of the video is fairly static images with minimal motion. Any “live” video content is in a window amongst the other weather info.

We’ll see if Nexstar keeps that going, assuming the merger is approved.

Gray’s KBTX in B/CS has weather on its 3.5. Receivable at my NW Harris County location.

1) Nexstar is doing live 24/7 weather streams on a very few stations.

2) Gray's KWTX Waco also has one on 10.6, and Gray does have a few of them on OTA as well.
