KENS CP to get weaker?

Why does KENS have a CP to get weaker?

On the FCC site they are at 1000. kW ERP now, their CP is to go to 54.3 kW ERP now with a lot less coverage. Is there any reason behind this? I watch KENS near Austin a lot. A lot of the time is on their radar channel.

The CP is for an auxiliary (backup) facility. Here in the Dallas market, KDFI's main plant is 1,000 kW at 1623' HAAT but their aux is 11.2 kW at 1259'.

Oh ok the way they had it listed it looked like the main site.

If I may ask, where are you located and what kind of antenna do you have? I'd love to have a decent OTA radar, ever since KVUE trashed their .3 .

I am about 30 or so miles south of Austin, My antenna is similar to Antennacraft® MXU47 UHF Antenna from Radio shack, I only have half of the antenna because the other part broke. I have it setup on the top of my attic pointed towards San antonio. With this I can also pull in Austin OTA, but I have that already on my Direct TV HD receiver.

Thanks, but I think I'm out of range. I'm at Steck and MoPac and due south and southwest of me is a large hill. The little antenna I have on the outside at 10 feet above ground points right into the side of it! And there are times when even Austin OTA is marginal for me.

The KVUE 24 weather channel is just about like KAVU 25 in Victoria 25.4. I wish they would of kept it with streaming live radar. It was fine to see local news and weather but now they got to much other stuff going on that I could care less. I just want to see the radar when my computers and phone is off! I hope KENS never changes their radar sweep channel!

We don't even have any weather information on the over the air digital subchannels in Houston. KHOU switched 11.2 that mostly showed radar and forecast stills to Bounce TV and KTRK dropped AccuWeather with local video cut ins to show Live Well in SD (which is silly since Live Well in HD was already being broadcast, so 13.2 and 13.3 are both Live Well). KTXH 20 and KRIV Fox 26 still have no subchannels, so they easily could offer a radar channel. I used to enjoy the Time Warner channel in Austin that had a radar with the National Weather Service NOAA weather radio audio. that would be very easy to do.

That is all really a local weather channel should need, is a radar sweep with NOAA in the background. It was nice when Victoria TV did that, and showed local news and weather forecast and sports. Now they turned into like KVUE 24 does in Austin. They would loose viewers because if they don't show the radar then they viewer will either go online or go on the phone for another source of radar and not view them.
