Kent actually had a good idea, but......

JOSH has some proposals of his own!

Kent suggested in the post below about RO/104.1 and such that CC needs to think about putting Majic on one of their 100kw sticks to defend it against 95.5

Kent, you suggested 103.3 or 93.7, but how about returning Majic to it's original home of 107.7 and moving Z to 103.3 instead? Majic has a lotta history at 107.7 and I imagine most of the STLs population is a longtime residency bunch WHO would remember Majic 107.7 as opposed to the transiet kind found in most larger markets.

Aw heck, let's move the Beat to 93.7 and that way CC will have RO beat up on signal. And probably programming too.

Ok, we'll move the Bull to 100.3, nuke oldies or move that to a HD-2 sub channel, but here's my ultimate proposal. At 104.9 debut Smooth Jazz! It has a signal in downtown itself and Smooth Jazz did decent numbers on 106.5. Bonneville abandoned Smooth Jazz so they could have the Variety hits format before Infinity.

Prehaps I'm looney for my own suggestions, but Kent was right. CC will need to defend it's urban position and to be honest, their oldies and country formats are kinda down and out. Especially oldies given that the format is in a 55+ territory.

<font color=3333ff>I used to live by Delmar and Kings, and I couldn't get 104.9 inside the house. I think it would do CC great to move Majic to 103.3 but the only problem with doing that is the Oldies format has a better following for all listners (young old black white, etc) and by putting Oldies on 104.9, it would hurt a "more sellable" format.

Z107.7 will not move, simply because it's the Top 40 station and can be heard wayyyy past the city. I fully believe that's why Majic 108 was eventually put to 105 at the time, simply because Hip Hop was a harder sell back then.

Once rumors started about Radio One picking up WFUN, CC jumped the gun and blew up Kiss 100.3 for the beat in 2000. Then Q95.5 came on, and the rest is known. Without Joyner on KMJM, I really don't know what CC can do to compete with Foxy.

As far CC goes, the only problem child I can see is KMJM, and it needs a better signal. 104.9 is the worst signal in the cluster, and it's a shame.......they can't do much with it, so I'd say they are stuck.

Putting a Smooth Jazz format on 104.9 would be pointless simply because the sinal can't penetrate offices and buildings, where most people would want to hear it.

I'm not a big fan of multiple swaps. I'd just move one station or swap two and get it over with. Of course, if I had my way, 103.3 would still be CHR KHTR from the 80's. The only reason you might move multiple stations would be the Rams contract.

I'm not sure what I'd do with 104.9 if it were in my hands. Although St Louis is pretty spread out when it comes to office buildings with Chesterfield, Maryland Heights, Clayton and much of the rest of West County, where 104.9's signal is poor, having a significant "listen at work" segment of the population, smooth jazz probably wouldn't be the worst idea. After all, it does appeal to much of the audience in 104.9's signal coverage area. However, I'd probably just do a two way swap and put oldies on 104.9 and be done with it.

To play armchair executive, I think I might consider a three way swap, returing three formats to their old homes. CHR to 103.3, Majic reborn on 107.7 as a Mainstream Urban Outlet, coming inbetween Hot 104 and Q95.5, mixing up Soul & Rap, as they successfully did for years. IMHO, a single combined station that is what Majic once was would do more against Radio One than the two combined stations with pretty much exactly the same formats.

Also, put Smooth Jazz back on 100.3 while they are at it. The 104.9 frequency could become KLOU, if they decided to keep oldies around, or perhaps they could move KATZ-AM's format to FM.

I know none of these moves will never happen, but, in my own twisted mind they make sense...:)
