KEOM parent comments about downgrading students

Another thing to ponder... Before Robert was banished from the board he repeatedly mentioned that he was a bit frustrated the station didn't move up into the 80s, etc. I tend to agree with a previous poster that Dr. G is more of the reason the place is still a bit stuck in it's ways. Being that it's a student station a guy needs to be a bit more careful with the heated arguments with other staff while in earshot of the kids. If there is any reason to be critical of Robert, that might be it. Slightly inferior prounciations from a guy that's partially DEAF on a training station is really sinking to some new lows... wow.

I think I see part of the problem here...Bonteeb seems to think that we're all part of some consortium that is unified in badmouthing anything we see fit. Truth is, you put everyone here in a room together, and it would likely come to fisticuffs very quickly. We're all here because we have some level of interest in radio, be it enthusiast, employee (current or former) or otherwise. That's the end of the commonality. The rest of it, LIKE WITH ANY INTERNET BLOG, consists of folks sharing their 2-cents worth in whatever self-chosen format and wording they deem proper. I agree with some people here sometimes, disagree with others many times, consider some post'ers my friends, and some are people I'd never want to meet. The participants here cannot control what others say. Some take issue with KEOM, others don't. But it's free speech (mostly,) and no one here is forced to accept your word or mine, or to express sympathy and empathy or anything else. Chewing us out as an entire group who Bonteeb perceives to be universally pro-Robert and anti-handicap comes from a hefty misinterpretation on her part.

BTW, try surfing Robert Bass's name on the web sometime. You want to read some vile stuff? See what's been written on various blogs and websites about his "nasal" sound. He's been put through the wringer by folks who know nothing about him, with no opportunity to defend himself...but with his good nature, he takes it in stride. And he must be doing something right to have handled afternoon drive there for the last 22 years.

I have continually read postings here and in other places in regards to making fun of and bashing so to speak of a community, educational station in Mesquite, KEOM. I have a daughter that went through the program at KEOM. It was one of the best learning experiences of her life. She came from being a very shy and timid girl to a very confident young lady. She attributes a large marjority of that to KEOM. Judging from some of the rantings and postings here and other places, there are some of you people that enjoy making fun of kids that are learning. Shame on all of you. That really serves the community!

What's hard to understand is why you people put so much stock in what Robert Bass has to say. When my my daughter was there and I listened regularly, he sounded awful! When I listen now, he sounds worse than what he did before. He stumbles and mumbles and can't eununciate properly. Half the time he says K - ME O-M. I've heard some of you people knock the students and put this drunk sounding person on a pedestal. I think you should be ashamed of yourselves for talking bad about students. Robert Bass is an adult and should be improving as time goes on. Instead he worsens. If you happen to listen to the students at KEOM at the beginning of a school year to the last day of school, you definitely notice a marked improvement.

With all due respect, you don't know what you're talking about. I'm glad your daughter had a good experience at KEOM. I think it's a wonderful program by the MISD.

Rob is the guy who picks the music to be played on the station. He also does production work for the station and runs the board for the live sports broadcasts. He's never indicated that he was in charge of the students or any of their instruction. Like your daughter, he's overcome his disabilities to succeed in his job at KEOM. He's not the best DJ and the world and he'll be the first to tell you that. But honestly, he never sounds drunk and certainly doesn't sound worse.

Rob isn't on this board anymore because of cheap shots like this. He tried to defend himself and was ultimately not permitted to do so. So be it.
