KEOM turns 25

This is exciting! 25 years of gold and Gold Disc's! YAY!!!! Glad I got to be a part of this station and its story!

Congrats to all!! I was going to post that earlier this week, just in case KEOM might have forgotten its own anniversary, but glad to see you're on top of it already! I did mention it (in glowing terms, naturally) on last week's "Hi-Fi Club." I talked about the program and how it works, and gave Mr. Bass some well-deserved kudos for his contributions there over 22 years as well. Wish you guys could iron out your differences.

Who are your other notable grads? I read about Jake and had completely forgotten about him being there. That was not long before the flip to all 70s.

Appropriately enough, given 93.3's change to CHR, it was the same week, 25 years ago as well in 1984, when both 106.1 and 97.1 flipped to CHR. 106 had just been bought by ABC/Cap Cities (or was it Gannett?) and flipped KIXK (oldies) to KTKS (the original Kiss.) KEGL, not to be outdone, tweaked from hard pop rock (for lack of a better name) to CHR.

Thanks for the glowing mention Mike! I thought the article in the DMN was really fantastic!

Hope you don't just leave it at kudos for Robert (and I think that is very deserved kudos) - I hope you include 24 years to Griffin, 25 to Wagoner (who just retired by the way) - and the incredible career path from secretary to Station Manager for Brooks. Kudos to the students, and all of the above!!

Congratulations to KEOM!

And thanks for posting the story. On Saturday, I read a somewhat abbreviated version in Briefing, the free-circulation newspaper distributed by The Dallas Morning News.

A couple of questions:

Has the station always had its current ERP?

Do the call letters, K-E-O-M, signify something? If so, I cannot figure it out.

Regards,

KEOM originally, signing on Sept. 4, 1984 was just 3000 watts, at 88.3. Now, we are 61,000 watts at 88.5, directional away from TCU.

EOM stands for "Education of Mesquite".
