KEOM

Does anyone know what's going to happen with KEOM? The last thing that I heard was that they were going to be bought and changed to an AC format. I looked at their website and everything looks the same.

This is a non-sensical posting. Did you really mean KEOM - the station run by the Mesquite ISD? I don't think so. Please re-think and re-ask your question.

People, people, people...Gordon is the guy who is blind and uses an audio version of the internet to read the board. I'd guess that he read that hilarious post from a couple of months ago that jokingly said that Steve Eberhart was buying KEOM to start up a new version of KVIL. I'd also guess that sarcasm doesn't make the proper translation on Gordon's system, and that he probably thought that was a serious posting! So, until Robert Bass makes the final confirmation here, I'd say that there's absolutely no possibility that KEOM will be sold to ANYONE. I mean, who would take over the Mesquite High School Girl's Stickball broadcasts? Where would The Recipe File end up? And what news station would take on southern drawler Dr. James Griffin as their lead anchor? And what station would Robert Bass buy up to finally get his 80s format on a terrestrial signal???

OH contrare!!!Yes, it's true, I'm BUYING KEOM! And yes, we're resurrecting KVIL. I'm negotiating for the return of Mike Donahue and Mike Selden (anyone have a shovel?). I'm planning to hire back all the legendary jocks and do ONE hour jocks shifts around the clock. The Prize Catalog, Magic Ticket, Car for Life, 6 pack of Chevettes, People's Choice, I Love KVIL bumper stickers are all back. Just one problem...anyone have a good relationship with a banker?

I'm sure Steve could get Ron Chapman to take out a home-equity loan on the ship he lives on. (and the old KLIF studios are still standing!)

HA haaaaaaaaaaa....(in the words of Chuck Rhodes!!)Now seriously...the really funny thing is that someone could resurrect KVIL in the legendary fashion but the enormous financial budgeting something like that would involve would make it impractical for any corporation to consider. About the only way that could happen is if you had an individual owner who had the passion to make it happen, ala the KKDA franchise. They answer to themselves so they are more capable of making decisions and policy that might not pass muster in a corporate boardroom but make sense here on this station regardless of everything else. That plus if a decision doesn't work, well again, they answer to themselves and say "we tried" and move forward. In the corporate world if you try something risky and it fails, you typically are out of work. When you really think about legendary stations like KLIF and KVIL here, most of what they did suceeded and suceeded hugely...but on occasion, an idea flopped. Once recognized the idea is dropped and forgotten and the next idea was usually genuis. Anyone remember "Girl Talk" on KLIF? "disco sets" at 25 past the hour on KVIL? or Studio 1037 (which Cat Simon and I hosted on Saturday nights BRIEFLY)?? They bombed and were uncermoniously dropped when it became apparent. I think a very deep pocketed Individual could recreate a KVIL type of station with all the old elements, find hip, entertaining jocks with something to say, and promote out the wazoo...but who's gonna do that...plus who's gonna sit in the captain seat and command that thing 24/7/365? I don't know anyone anywhere in the industry who'd do it. ... and thus, the rub. But ain't it fun to think about!

"Baaaby I Lovvee itt!!! 'Now if only Richard Carpenter would pay me my royalties, I have been waiting ONLY YESTERDAY."

Aahh yes, The Prize Catalog...what memories. Don't forget the "Rolling Stereo Studio", "KVILellow Van", Peggy Sears, Suzie Humphreys and Jack Schell. Any bankers out there, contact Steve!

All this talk about KVIL and the prize catalog. I grew up in california and there were many stations doing all these things way before kvil was even on the air.And guess what i still here selected markets/stations doing these great promotions with great dj's. I would agree most dj's aren't doing alot these days but that doesn't mean they aren't talented enough to do it. My friends in radio tell me the jocks are for the most part told to shut up and be safe. Do not offend or make anyone think. I just listened to a aircheck on KVIL in the early 80's. The jocks are just about the same. Oh of course there are a few standouts just like they are today. One thing is certain, gm's today aren't hiring pd's like Chapman anymore and he's just one of thousands out there, even some are still working today frustrated as hell.Listen to kvil today. safe. Why can't they bring back a prize catalog?. Do the current pd's just don't get it it, or is it the bean counters who now run programming screwing things up. Maybe it's all of them.Where's the massive billboards, tv/print, etc? Enourmous bigger than life promotions. Big cash giveawys? Suits can give you a 1000 reasons why not to do these anymore. Too bad.I'm sure they're plenty of programmers and air talent that have all these great ideas. As for the music...i don't think anybody knows how to pick a fun mass appeal adult song anymore. Too busy trying to outhip the next pd.

But according to sweepers on Jack, the singers who did the jingles were outsourced and now they "sing for Jack"..I laughed when I heard that the first time....now THAT was funny ;)
