Man... My intentions when starting this thread was just to say I enjoyed a few days of listening to KEOM, and to compliment the staff. I apologize for all the drama, but I do look forward to listening again soon when I'm back in the DFW area.

2. Douglas/Frazee? I would like to think that someone with your background, experience, professionalism on air, and love of this business would be more classy than to print the real last name of a DJ who uses a false name on-air. Shame on you.

3. Chris moved to mornings (at HIS request) so he could spend more time with his 2 yr old son in the afternoons/evenings. Shame on you for your insinuations.

4. RB was not on the air for 22 yrs in the afternoons. In fact, Chris Douglas/Frazee (going under the name Kris Morgan) used to do afternoons there 12 years ago. At that time, and for tons of years, RB was a weekend part timer. RB didn't even become the Music Manger until just the last handful of years. Aren't you suppose to be the local radio history guy????

5. In all my years of radio management and programming, I have never seen such patience, long-suffering, compromise and grace given to a radio employee as I witnessed first hand at KEOM this summer. Peggy Brooks "has it in" for no one.

6. You sure are quick to judge other radio people. You said yourself, you "assume" the new afternoon DJ is a vet. Assuming is a stupid thing to do. You don't know that of which you speak. You are too publicly critical of others. It's a shame too, to have to tell you, because I personally think you do traffic very well. YOU sound great at what you do.

7. You don't like my traffic bed? Or top of hour bed? What's wrong with you? KEOM can't get new jingles? KEOM can't try to improve? Or add elements that make the learning experience for the students more accurately reflect a commercial station's programming? You didn't mention the new weather beds. Do they stink too? Wait till you hear the new Christmas jingles we cut! Oh, yea, there's a new STUDENT DJ jingle comin' too. But I guess we should trash it since Mr. Mike doesn't want us to play new things. The kids will be disappointed - they came down to the studio and everything to see the session. But I guess YOU didn't know that, did you?

You are not an employee of MISD or KEOM. You don't know what's going on. Only a fool would continue to post on here as if he did. In the 15 years I have been associated and employed at KEOM - I have never once seen your mug in the hallways.

You don't get it.

OK Chris, you wanted some feedback, so here goes.

I noticed while skimming the playlist on your website that you guys are playing Sister Golden Hair and Moonlight Feels Right, again. I thought those were no-no songs for KEOM. I seem to recall a post that stated KEOM had dropped songs with the words damn and hell?

And what's with all the SLOW songs back-to-back?

Oh yeah, and the repetition is stunning. You had Black & White by Three Dog Night in two hours back-to-back.

One more thing... GET RID OF COPACOBANA (and all the other Manilow Songs for that matter).

RB edited out "damn" from "Sister Goldenhair" a while back...not sure if that horrible curseword is back in or not. Same question for Seger's "Still the Same."

Yeah, last weekend there was (what seemed) a 4-5 hour turnaround on songs, like the voicetracking system wasn't programmed right or something. I didn't check yes.com to confirm, however, but it seemed like many of those replays were even in the same order.

Funny, I was thinking about "Copacabana" just today when KEOM played it. The version they use is not the 1978 "radio edit" but it's not the album version, either. It's that high-pitched, single tone "COPA.........COPACABANA..." (etc) in the middle that doesn't belong. Poor Lola...scrtr84 wants to strike her pitiful story from the KEOM airwaves...first she loses Tony, and now this. Didn't Barry make that song into a made-for-TV movie in the 80s?

On the slow songs back-to-back...remember the days of the old Color Wheel graph, where you'd ease from fast song into a medium-pace song, then slow, then medium, then fast, etc. The 45's(!) had a colored dot placed on the sleeve that told the jock what category a given song fell into, so the order of the Wheel could be easily followed. (Now I don't know if this was a universal idea, but I did see it firsthand at KVIL in the early 1980s.) I guess the question here for Chris is, are the songs randomized or categorized or how does this work at KEOM?

I'm not trying to make excuses here, but one thing you should know: I inherited the most messed up Selector database I've ever seen (Mike: it was random play under the previous MD - categorized [somewhat] now). And I inherited an unbelievable Christmas mess just 27 days before we start playing Christmas. We are spending all our time prepping for Christmas. We are not doing very much at all with the 70's except "auto pilot" for now. It will be months before my personal fingerprints are on the 70's music programming. That non-excuse having been said:

damn & hell - and references to making love for that matter will be dayparted to non-student DJ hours.

there is zero sound code, tempo, texture, mood, and energy coding - let alone rules - at this time (this is the bulk of the library maintenance that is going to take some time)

MY GOD - THE REPETITION LAST WEEKEND ABOUT KILLED ME!! I agree. I found a problem with the station Dayparts settings, that was causing rotation to be wayyyyy too tight. I've opened up the rotation - and it should be better now (even though I still am only working with the incredibly short song list I inherited) We've added as much as we could to expand the library.

LOL Mike, yeah - poor Lola. I like Copa - and we get a lot of calls for it. But I agree its been playing too much. I've fixed that.

In the future: Tempo, Texture, Mood & Energy coding for "flow", Categories for organization based on popularity/rotation desires - used in conjunction with Rolling Clocks to mix it up.

The "deep cuts" that made KEOM such a pleasure to listen to seem gone. Plus, other things have left a bad taste.

Combine the two, and I'm not a listener any more. I have an iPod, so hearing songs I can hear at an airport terminal isn't all that thrilling.

With all respect to Mike and the others who enjoy their 70's hits on KEOM....
I sure wish the station offered a more educational presentation.
I wish the students were exposed to the history of music, from the elegance of Mozart, the power of Beethoven, the brilliance of Rossini, to the intricate structure of Big Band, the genius of Bob Wills twin fiddles, the raw emotion of the Blues, the creativity of Jazz, and the accessability of the '60s folk scare. Have the presenters put the music into context. Build a body of musical knowlege.
I would have the students gather and edit sound into creative programs. Have them report and present news. Network with local groups for effective PSA's. Maybe study enough meteorology to present a coherent weather forecast. In my view, reading liner cards and playing tunes off a pre-packaged commercial music system doesn't prepare the students for much of anything in the field of broadcasting.
