This classic country station is just, very good. I'm not even into classic country and I like this station.
Near perfect audio quality, nice and uncompressed. I like it.
Just has the feel of a good small town radio station, and they play pretty good sounding songs.

Just one gripe, I've heard them and they seem to sell spots, they play commercials for local businesses all the time.
The station is supposed to be non-commercial, as it's in the non-commercial part of the band (89.7).
What's wrong with this picture?

I'm not even sure the people at the station know they're breaking regulations, I somehow can't see the classic country folks who sound nice and friendly on the air doing things like that.
 
I listened online for a while.

The 'messages' I heard were presented in stopsets as on a commercial station but I did not hear them overstep the accepted verbage for underwriting. They were close to the line in length and number (possibly over the 'suggested' number by FCC standards but if you take a listen to an NPR affiliate you're likely to hear more than these guys during AM and PM drive).

Remember that some non-commercial FMs run two feeds: a non-commercial over the air feed and a more commercial online feed where the FCC has no authority to regulate commercial content.

I will give them credit for presenting themselves in their marketing to businesses as a viable option for gaining new customers. Regardless of what is said 'officially' businesses write checks to radio stations as an investment. They expect results and I am amazed at the number of non-comms that approach underwriting as a 'donation' versus something of value to the business owner.

Another thing we radio people need to remember is the average radio listener has no idea what the difference is between an NCE and a commercial FM. If you play an enhanced underwriting spot next to commercial few would know which is which. Lest we forget, it is content that brings the listener to you. Very, very few will ever say I listen because they do underwriting versus commercials and those that would say that sure are not typical.
