KERA 90.1 FM has got static with the broadcast this morning

Sounds like they need to get on FleaBay and get a compellor. The levels from the PRSS bird are all over the place, along with things that come off the storage receiver. Without some fairly aggresive AGC action, the end result on-air is very inconsistant.

Wow, here it is, almost a month later, and KERA 90.1 still has horrible static being broadcast with their signal !

And yes, I have called twice and been sent to some engineer's voicemail by the receptionist. I did leave a VM each time.

I even contacted Member Services so they could report it through their channels.

So my question for others, is are you getting 90.1 clear without the static over the air where you are ? ?

In the past I have received 90.1 without static in my North Central Irving location.

Other FM stations do not come in with static. I don't see how this a problem related to my setup or location ? ?

No problem here in west arlington

Was there some tropo last night? I know a gust front blew in about 6:30 and dropped temperatures by 20 degrees.

There's been a ton of tropo lately. Could their STL system be at fault? I suppose there's a ton of things it could be actually. Sadly, their engineering dept. probably needs to be a bit more accessable and responsive. Non-comm or not, hiding behind the VM isn't the way to keep listeners. Radio is a team effort. Bad engineering can bring a place to it's knees just as badly as lousy sales or underwriting, or bad talent, or whatever. I'm not in the market and I don't want to judge KERA or what's going on there, but if someone isn't fairly easy to get ahold of, they are doing the station a dis-service.

This afternoon at 3pm, 90.1 (still) has static that comes across as the speaker and guests speak, and as music is played. But there is no static in brief pauses when there is neither voice or music.

I live in North Central Irving, and can receive most DFW FM stations without any static.

I listen at home with a Radio Shack Accurian HD Radio.

I do not have a cell phone charger plugged in at this time.

There is no CFL bulbs on in this part of the house.

The Accurian (long ago discontinued) is noted for having variable sensitivity and selectivity. Some work very well, while others seem to be deaf as a post. Maybe you got one of the bad ones...

It should be noted that we seem to be having some very unusual tropospheric ducting problems. It is very possible that you are a victim of Mother Nature. Try reorienting or moving the antenna. A few inches can make a big difference.
