KERA 90.1

Did they ever have an HD2? And if they did would a good idea be putting BBC world service on the HD2? I see a couple NPR stations do that across the United States

I always wanted BBC World Service when I lived in DFW and hoped someone would put it on an HD-# channel.

Now I live in Salt Lake City where is’s on KUER (University of Utah NPR)’s -2.

I love it, but I don’t know how many people really listen to it.

KERA said they didn't want to spend the money on HD Radio equipment when they bought KVTT (now KKXT). The first question asked back then was "Why buy 91.7? Why not just create an HD2 for that type of music."

KUT in Austin has BBCWS on its HD-2. I’ve noticed it has some programming differences from the BBCWS version carried on SiriusXM.

Im fairly certain the Feed of the WS on KSKO at 7pm is different than what i hear on shortwave

On shortwave you might be hearing a regional variation, such as for Africa.

On night, i had real clear signal i think on 15490.. and compared it to KSKO airing at the same time, and i didnt seem different .. havent checked then. they have enough studios and audience i guess they can do regional variations.. hadnt thought of that before

15490 is used by BBCWS for West Africa from 05-06 UTC transmitted from Woofferton. 9410 Ascension also used for West Africa at the same time, while 21560 is beamed to East Africa from Oman at the same hour. The Newsday program airs across all BBCWS output at that time.

American Public Media distributes BBCWS in the U.S. I believe they have a few variations from the “basic” schedule.

The Focus on Africa program is a variation beamed to that continent.

I've noticed when WNYC runs BBC World Service overnight, it also differs from the real one airing on Sirius XM. I think American Public Media, which distributes it in the U.S., deletes some African or Asian targeted shows, or shows on British sports that Americans wouldn't be interested in. (No matter how much of a BBC fan you are, do you want 30 minutes on cricket results?)

I figure APM takes a previous general interest hour and reruns it in that time slot, or maybe the BBC does that itself. I notice the BBC anchor heard at 9 a.m. on WNYC will record a promo of what's coming up in his hour for the New York station, airing around 8:50 a.m.

I had to double check my radio. I was a bit confused and thought they had maybe flipped on HD. I’ve lived in DFW since late 2017 and I haven’t seen KERA in HD. Since most FM stations in DFW broadcast in HD, I think I would listen to KERA a bit more if it were in HD.

I believe the closest NPR station to DFW that runs HD is 88.9 KETR and whoever programmed the PAD data did an amazing job! It will show the current show and the next show coming up. I wish more stations would fully utilize the technology available to them.

In case anyone didn’t know, you can listen to World Service on the BBC Sounds app. You just have to put in a British zip code to access it.

We have the BBC WS 5am and 7pm weekdays (9am and 11pm eastern) and we stream and it works right in your browser.. no fancy player needed
