KERA ANALOG ON NOW

If you happen to be in the D/FW area and near an NTSC set on this Friday evening, flip over to analog 13. For some reason, KERA is on with their NTSC facility as of 22:00. It's likely a transient event, so take a look before they switch it off.

Well, as of 2245, they were back off the air. I'm betting there was some sort of test going on that involved their digital channel 14. Or maybe somebody accidentally hit the "on" button again.

Maybe out on Highway 67, the plumbing got crossed in preparation for KTVT to head back to channel 19. :)

Sorry you just missed it Dan. It was oh so retro to see good old analog again. I'll wager that some DXer in who-knows-where may have also stumbled across this too.

KERA's analog is back on again as of 0030 early Monday 3 AUG 2009. Catch it while you can. It seems like it's not the full 316 kw but it's definitely readable. Have some patience...from what I can discern, it's on for an interval of time (circa 5 minutes) and then back off before going back on.

Can't receive it here but what does it look like?

It's *very* snowy (a la KZFW-LP on analog 6). If I were to pull a number out of thin air, it looks like about what I'd expect from about 4 kw of NTSC power. As I mentioned in the previous post, KERA's analog signal is present for a span of about 5-10 minutes and then it's gone. It doesn't fade out -- just POOF -- it's gone until the next iteration. I'll see if I can find out anything later today from KERA engineering.

Do you think they are going LP?

No. There are no construction permits for any sort of LPTV on channel 13 -- nor any applications, even -- based on the FCC's online database.
