I know a major market station that does a yearly fund raiser for St. Jude's every year. They are the local hard rock station, but they are part of a big cluster. They compile this massive music database and if you donate $20 or more you can request ANY song under the sun.

Some people request their favorite rock song, others request some off-the-wall Celine Dion song or something. But it always ends up making huge money for St. Judes and it's good for a few laughs too.

I'll bet the target was $700K. The last several pledge drives have lasted 3 weeks or more and I have heard announcers say something like "When we meet the goal, we go back to regular programming, no matter how long it takes. The sooner you pledge, the sooner we stop asking." :

With the threat of funding being cut for NPR in the House, they better have more then a goal.
