KERA: One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

Our good friends at North Texas Public Broadcasting have done it again. They take a positive step with KERA-FM by eliminating a repeat broadcast of Fresh Air at 7 PM (it goes out live on KERA at 11 AM the same morning).

Do they replace it with a local show? No.
Do they replace it with an NPR or PRI show that is not currently being broadcast in the Metroplex? No.
Do they replace it with yet another hour of the BBC World Service? No.
Maybe a delayed broadcast of The World at Six or As it Happens from the CBC? No.

Beginning Monday, KERA-FM will run the television audio of The Newshour with Jim Leher. (sarcasm) Radio worth listening to indeed (/sarcasm). I like the Newshour. It's a TELEVISON PROGRAM. KERA-FM is already not running all kinds of interesting programs from NPR, PRI, or the CBC. Why waste an hour of radio time with something that is already run on KERA-TV twice that same evening?

If Dr. Richard "Richie The Wolfman" Meyer was still running the show, this BS wouldnt fly. Since Bill Young tool over the reigns, its been a series of misteps, from selling KDTN2 to Daystar to not taking advantage of 13.1 to this recent debaucle. Why is it that other PBS stations can put out consistant original programming (ex: Austin City Limits from KLRU, NOVA from WGBH,ect..) and we're stuck with the 20-30+ year old british comedys that can be seen on BBC America.

If KERA had any ballz, they would air Democracy Now with Amy Goodman.

Of course, KERA is missing a pair.

What a stupid name for a show. Are they trying to imply that we are a democracy?

Milton, and you host or produce a show where?? My advice, dont knock it till you give it a shot.

It would be DAMN nice to live in a democracy.

KERA is about the only station in this region that gives a more open view than what is being represented in the "10 sec. sound-bite" press.
