KERN 1410 ...77 years and changing?

So what's with the ominous message on KERN'S website?

It reads something like they are going to announce the biggest move in their 77 year history this week.

The thing that got me is that they used the word MOVE. Is AM radio going away? Will it be a thing of the past?

My wife and I have been discussing this since I read it this evening and the only thing we could come up with (together,a rarity I assure you) is that they would take the AM to an FM.

Sure it's hype to leave an announcement like this but what does one do with a dinosaur?

A lot of stations are moving their News And Talk Formats to the FM Dial. Just The Sign Of The Times.

How about moving the intellectual property to the now dark 660 AM in Orcutt.
 
There going to simulcast on KKXX 93.1, much like KCBS on KFRC 106.9 in SF, what next, KFBF 1530 on KGBY 92.5 in Sacramento,KNX 1010 on KRTH 101.1 in L.A.,and KMJ 580 on KWYE 101.1 in Fresno.
 
If they are moving to 1180, I HOPE!!! That is a 50,000 watt station which is currently KERI a religious format. I am going to keep my fingers crossed!!!
 
Moving to 1180 would be a good move ,it would be great to recieve another NEWS/ TALK station.

KERN moving to 1180 makes as much sense as KFIV moving to 770 AM (current home of KCBC). The idea sounds great, but it just isn't going to happen.
 
Yep, that is what I am hearing as well.
KERN moves to 1180AM on the dial.

But, will a move to a 50k signal actually help the station's sinking numbers?

Why not buy 660 AM / Oildale (KGDP) out of bankruptcy. Low dial position and a decent signal.

Well I was wrong. Good for KERN! Maybe there is a chance KFIV can move to the KCBC-770 spot? ;)
 
KERN does own KERI 1180. As far as KFIV I don't think they own KCBC .It would great for them sence there signal is better. Here in Clovis at night KKOB 770 Dominates there signal most of the time.

Actually I knew that. I thought maybe CC would swap stations to move KFIV. KCBC's signal is stronger in Stockton than KFIV's. In fact, KFIV-1360's signal disappears AFTER SUNDOWN. That is why CC was simulcasting KFIV on AM 1280. Here is a suggestion, CC could offer both 1360 as well as 1280 to Crawford (as well as more $$) in exchange for 770. But then again, 770 is only 50K during the day, not night. I remember when KCBC was KPLA (and under other ownership) and it was NEWS/TALK for 2 years. But I doubt Crawford would sell?
