KERN 1410 Program Director and wife quit..

The Program Director ??? and his "reporter" wife have quit over at 1410 KERN-AM BAKERSFIELD,CALIFORNIA

He is now going to program KMJ,don't know if he will hire her.

Incorrect. He has taken a job as APD and news reader at KMJ. Under his leadership, KERN has been soundly beaten by KNZR. The guy really destroyed a heritage station, and jumped off before getting fired. Corey Costello is acting PD.

Yeah, the fpormer CC GM from Grand Rapids Mi., Skip Essik is the PD for KMJ, and from what I understand, the job opening for APD was just approved on Monday or Tuesday. Surprising to see it filled so fast.

"Destroyed" ? How was it destroyed? Nothing much has changed there - seems steady. I recall that the old 970 went out of business even after they plucked Rush, Dr. Laura and Lemucchi from KERN. KNZR was a non-factor until Rush landed there. Seems to me, the outgoing pd managed keep it afloat and sellable.

Going from heritage, market leading News-Talk station to second place behind KNZR in every sellable demographic IS "destroying" the station. They have been absolutely annihalated by KNZR in less than two years since they picked up Rush. It's not just Rush where they're getting beat. It's in nearly every daypart. What did Taylor do to improve the station? What is KERN doing different today than two years ago? I think Blake and KERN underestimated KNZR. Given KNZR's past track record with the station I can understand why they wouldn't react early on, but in the last year? Again, what have they done? Keeping a station "afloat" isn't going to make you successful. Rumor out of the building is that Blake had one more book to prove himself anyways, so he jumped early.

He didn't have "one more book" to prove himself.

AGM doesn't ever fire anyone unless they HAVE to which is rare.

As for KNZR being better. The only thing they have is Rush.Ralph Bailey is so horrible. He loves himself waaaaayyyy too much for someone who no one knows.Jaz is equally as bad,his jealousy of Inga and Scott is boundless.

Word in town is that Taylor is joining our ranks because he and the Mrs. just had a child and are ready for a change of location.

Nothing more,nothing less.

You might want to check your sources, the Mrs isn't so happy about leaving family and friends behind in Bakersfield. Do you really think that AGM would allow him to continue to captain the ship as it sinks lower and lower? As for KNZR, Glenn Beck beat KERN in AM drive, Rush was #1 A25-54 and Jaz was #1 A25-54 (crushing Hannity in the same time slot). In prior books Bailey has beaten Savage, but Savage got him in this last one. They've got more going on than Rush. KERN was a great station at one time and they need to find a way to get back on top. A change in personnel for them isn't a bad thing.

AGM-isn't that the same group who signed on an FM-News Talker in Albq NM, and
managed to make every mistake you possibly could, & ultimately after generating
little or no ratings, bailed out of the format in less than a year?

Blake is a great guy and an awesome PD. We wish him and his new family well in Fresno. Anyone with something negative to say needs to get a life.

He may be a great guy, but he was a terrible PD. He oversaw the destruction of what was once the dominant news talker. Poor decision making, non decision making. Let's not forget, this is the guy that was dating one of his employees. Fortunately for American General, it worked out, but there was a time when management was concerned about a possible sexual harrassment suit. How many news directors did he go through? It was time for him to move on.
