KESN's HD Signals

Just outta curiosity, what happen to KESN's (ESPN 103.3) HD Radio signals? They had 2 other sub channels "ESPN Deportes" on HD2 and the audio simulcast of "ESPNews" on HD3, but for reasons unknown, the signals were gone as of this Summer.

Were they installing new HD radio antennas or did they just kill 'em off altogether?

103.3 still has static with their signal from the tabletop radio in N. Irving.

Depending on exactly where in Irving you are, the distance to the 103.3 tower is about 45 miles. Also, you are surrounded by lots of noise being in the middle of the Metroplex and relatively close to two Class C second adjacent stations (102.9 and 103.7). I think a little static is probably par for the course. Was it once totally clear?

Car radios are designed to pick up distant stations well since drivers often want to listen to the same station over long distances. Home radios are usually designed primarily for nearby stations since most people only listen to local stations at home.

Not exactly. Listeners, overwhelmingly, listen to local, in-market stations whether they are at work, in the car or at home.

Car radios are generally better at pulling in distant stations because the receivers are often more sensitive, have better antennas, are more free of obstructions (like walls) and further from sources of interference and electrical noise.
