This is a posting I never thought I would do. Kevin's wife Debbie called me on Thursday morning to tell me that Kevin had died. He was fishing and she thinks he had a heart attack. This is a very sad day.

Kevin was a very affable guy. He had one of those amazing laughs. We had many a great conversation! I was at WOBM-FM with Matt Devoti when Kevin was at WOBM-AM. He was hired to be the morning man of their country format. Kevin, Matt and I had lunch often and had a bet who would get to a big radio market first. Matt won! lol Kevin followed and worked at Q104 in NYC for about 8 years!! He loved that job and the overnight listeners!

I still can't beleive it. He was only 48. I miss him. I miss talking to my friend about anything and everything! Debbie said there will not be a public service. She is having a private, family only, service. Kevin rest in peace and enjoy the fishing in heaven! I hear they've got some great big ones in God's ocean!!!

This is shocking, horribly sad news. I worked with Kevin on The Breeze (I think it was his most recent radio job). A very, very, nice man (he was especially nice to my young son when I would bring him with me to the station occasionally) and a fine jock. My condolances to his family.

This is just awful, tragic news. Kevin and I used to share timeslots (him on the Breeze, myself on G-Rock) on Saturday middays and I'm sure just as everyone knows...he was just one of the geniunely NICE people I'd ever met. I didn't know him as long as most people here did (perhaps a year or so), but we'd both pop into each other's studios during our respective shifts and just talk about anything and everything from radio to music to life in general.

After reading the article on the APP website that the body was identified, all of us here at Press were holding out hope that MAYBE it wasn't him. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case and it's a very sad piece of news.

I wish my best to all of his family and friends in this extremely difficult time. A really good man, taken way too soon.

KEVIN HODGE was the first person I worked with when I first started in radio.... imagine, a VETERAN doing county and a rookie just lucky to be there... WOBM-AM. KEVIN was the epitomy of COOL! With his laid back style and treamendous sense of humor, he was always very patient with me and he was a very good teacher. He taught me how to "dump" the newsperson if they were going on and on! He also taught me how to time out... with pencil and paper! KEVIN and I worked the Saturday morning show together and we had a BLAST! The last time I saw KEVIN was when he was working at the Breeze. KEVIN HODGE WAS TRULY A FIRST RATE BROADCASTER! My deepest condolences to his wife Debbie and all of KEVIN'S family.

KEVIN, I am proud to have known and worked with you.

Sometimes we use the words radio personality loosely these days. But Kevin truly was a radio personality. I always enjoyed his shows on Q104. Whatever the topic was...his take on it was unique and fun. You could tell how much he loved being on the air just by listening to his breaks. Kevin and I followed similar paths through NJ (Magic, WOBM, The Breeze). My only regret is that I never had a chance to work with him (he was always one step ahead of me). What I can say is that every person I knew that did work with him never had one bad thing to say about him. In fact, they all had great Kevin stories. He really made some wonderful friends in radio. My sympathy goes out to those friends and his family. Sadly, we have just lost another one of "the good guys" in our business.

My condolences also.
As Matt Knight mentioned above, our news dept came across the article I believe last Wednesday and we had been searching for some further substantiation that this was the same person that we all knew.

While searching, I came across a picture of Kevin at http://www.publicradioquest.com/user/420

Kevin was a warm friendly person and we shared memorable stories during our times together.

My name is Patty and I have worked with Kevin at AAA Mid-Atlantic. He was an awesome guy and loved his wife very much. He was always so full of life at work and had a smile for everyone when they came in the door.

He will be very much missed at AAA.

I worked the shift after Kevin on Sunday mornings on The Breeze. The first time I heard him, I was on my way to work and Kevin sounded so professional and relatable. I had to ask "What the heck are you doing in this tiny market?" Kevin told me his story about his years at Q104.3 and the financial hard times that followed after he left that job. He was a good broadcaster who wasn't treated well by big corporate broadcasting. He talked about his exasperating endless job search and praised his lovely wife who stood by his side through the tough times.

Kevin was a wise mentor and a friendly co-worker. The last time I talked to him in December 2006, I was unemployed and he gave me some very valuable advice and helped me see the optimistic reality of a difficult situation.

My deepest condolences to Kevin's family and friends!

Peace,

Years ago I promised myself I would never post on a message board...the passing of 2 great friends of old has changed my mind. As stated by others, it certainly is a sad time for the WOBM family. To lose both Mr. Maze and Kevin Hodge - two of the warmest, friendliest & caring guys I have met in my radio career - leaves me with a heavy heart.

Hodge or "Hodgemo!" as I preferred to call him was a great enigma. He had pipes, James-Earl-Jones-type-pipes, but chose to be soft spoken. He loved meeting people but was never fond of doing personal appearances...though the few he did do were tremendous! I will never forget the laughs Dan Blackman & I had when we did combined WOBM AM & FM station appearances and the old-timers would gather around Kevin to get a "limited edition WOBM Star Country Boot Mug". As Dan & I were howling behind the vans Kevin in great spirit would greet his listeners and take it in stride. Of course when we'd get together for lunch the next day he would crack that "cat-got-the-mouse" grin and promise to choke us to death next time. ;-)
Years later (1997) we stood stageside at the PNC Bank Arts Center as he was about to go out and introduce BOSTON. Just then he turned to me and said "Matt-man this isn't for me...I can't do this!" As a stage hand pressed a mic into his hand and gave him the green light Kevin looked at me for help. I asked the stage hand "where's the other mic?, we're the new Q104 Morning Team and have to go out together!" Sure it was a lie (we were doing different airshifts) but I wasn't going to abandon good bud. We wound up ticking-off the stage crew and had to share 1 mic (big deal) but it went off without a hitch. Many more laughs were to follow, one in particular showed how he was anything but self-centered. While the Q104 jocks were asked to provide headshots for some sort of printed program, a Christmas concert or something (maybe Grand Funk at the Beacon?) Kevin handed in a childhood picture of him in a snowsuit after a storm holding a stick in the air and told management that was the best he could do...they printed it! I laughed 'til I damn near cried!!! His sense of humor made everone feel comfortable and at ease...he had a great knack for that.

Now the tears are for his widow Deb, friends & family.
Deb, he talked about you non-stop and loved you with all of his big heart.
Kevin thanks for the great memories....Pacem!
