It maybe true. But how a New York Ad Agency views a market is not relevant to the original topic.

Wrong. Categorically, absolutely wrong. Are you telling me that Grand Rapids, Michigan doesn't have McDonalds? No Subway? People there don't get their insurance from Geico?

Probably no Meijer there, though, so none of those ad buys. Oh, wait - it's the corporate headquarters.

The funny thing is, as I've pointed out before, when you get beyond Bob Sirott, Ed Schwartz, Herb Kent and a few others, very few of our radio stars are or were native Chicagoans and in almost every case have come to this market from elsewhere--and in most cases, a lot of elsewheres. Dahl? Detroit and many other places. Brandmeier? Phoenix. Mancow? San Francisco. O'Dell? Davenport. Collins? Milwaukee. Matthews? Grand Rapids (oddly enough). I don't know where Eric and Kathy came from individually, but I'm sure they're not native Chicagoans. Don Wade? Too many places to count. Lujack? Boston before his first stint at WCFL. You want to go back to Wally Phillips? Cincinnati.

The truth still is that Chicago is a place that radio talent comes to, not a place where talent can be nurtured.
