Legendary Radio PD Kevin O’Neal Found Dead

It is with great sorrow allaboutcountry reports this information, yet, unofficial reports are claiming, Kevin O’Neal, the legendary Program Director, has been found dead in a hotel room in Nashville, TN. Most of his friends knew him simply as, KO.
O’Neal was found late Saturday after not being heard from for 3 days. An autopsy is planned for tomorrow, Sunday January 28, 2007.

According to sources, he had been suffering from a number of various undisclosed illnesses. Back in November 2001 he was hospitalized in Nashville with a shortness of breath and heart problems.

O’Neal’s track record reads like a who’s who in Country. He had moved back to Nashville last year after resigning from the Beasley Broadcast Group/Las Vegas as OM for KCYE/104.3 The Coyote. Previously he was PD of WSM-FM/Nashville, WSOC/Charlotte and WXTU/Philadelphia. and before that he was with Cumulus Wilmington, NC and Myrtle Beach SC and then asGM at WYAK & WMYB Myrtle Beach, SC.

O’Neal is survived by his two pre-teen Children; a boy, a girl and his ex wife, Claire.

More details as they become available.

Wow.... The lack of replies to this post is at least a bit interesting. Like Mama used to say, "If you don't have anything good to say......."

Has this been confirmed? I saw only one other post (on the Philadelphia board)...
nothing in print...nothing other than all access on the web...nothing on TV.
Maybe we're hoping it's a mistake...

I went to high school with Raymond, er Kevin. He started out as a teenager working at WLLY in Wilson, NC. His father was GM there at the time. He was known as a bit of a loud mouth in school, but he had a passion for country radio. He did what he did very well.
