Kevin Wall...anyone...anyone?

Guest
Anyone with an opinion on how Kevin Wall is doing in his latest go round at the world famous WGST?

Scale of 1 to 10?

My pick: At best a 5.

Middle of the road talk host, not too bad but not very good either.

Wall is just a filler

Wall is not to be considered at all. He is just a filler till they bring in more tryouts or make a decision on the ones they have heard so far. The real threat is coming this Sunday night. Costa is the leading contender so far but that will end Sunday night.

I hope David Paul kills Sunday night and ends the competition. Best of luck to him! I thought he got a raw deal when he left WSB. He was just starting to really fire on all cylinders as a talk host.

This is a shot he really should have gotten 13 years ago.

COSTA.

The right man for the right job at the right time.

Hire this man already GST!

David Paul will get the job

I think that David Paul is so different from the other tryouts that he will stand out. This could be a real benefit. You will have all others grouped together and David Paul standing alone. My bet is on David Paul landing this job. He offers something completely different from Neil Boortz.

I've only been in Atlanta for 7 years. Describe David Paul for me please. :)

All sarcasm aside I would agree that Costa should be in the lead based on his performace when he was in town a few weeks ago. I'd like to hear more from him too. I also thought Bill Cunningham was very good and I haven't been as glum as some here about Kevin Wall. I also though Mike Rose held his own for as long as I could hear him last Sunday. David Paul? It'll be interesting.

Get serious

Oh good grief! You really think that Bruce Collins and Jerry DelCore and Gabe Hobbs are reading these boards! Get real. They'll hire who they want. All this stuff with polls and vote for who you like is just stunting.

Kevin Wall filling in over July 4th, etc. just proves that he needs to feed him family. Give it a break, Dino.

Yeah...get serious Dino!

Jerk! :)

Re: Yeah...get serious Dino!

Whether or not Mr. Costa gets the Braves Radio GST job....I hope his next job is an on-air only job and not one that involves him in the hiring process...He absolutely annoyed me to death when he was staffing that Jax station...everyday he would place these long help wanted ads on allaccess.com. I HATED THOSE THINGS.

Yes, IN ALL CAPS WITH A LOT OF THESE: !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very small market.

Just out of curiosity...

I merely asked a question. And who is Dino?

A slew of stuff from the Dino Costa website

Informed, entertaining, and refreshingly candid. These are some of the features that you will get when tuning in to The DinoCosta Show. Dino delivers a high impact sports and political talk radio program that is in many ways a radical departure from the status quo. You will not find a more direct and opinionated sports talk host anywhere else on the dial.

Conversational in nature the program also delivers a consistent high visibility guest lineup with some of the biggest names in the sporting and political world. Dino Costa is a native of New York and has worked in several different capacities within the sports broadcasting arena. He’s done play-by-play, anchored, and hosted his own program. The DinoCosta Show has been aired in the cities of Denver, Cleveland, Miami, Orlando, Wheeling, Huntington and Trenton. Dino has also broadcast in Los Angeles with Fox Sports Radio and in New York with 1010 WINS radio.

Previously The Dino Costa Show was aired in Jacksonville on AM-970 WNNR from June 2003 through February 2004.

Under a Partnership Management agreement, Dino returned to
Jacksonville in August of 2004.

His program will be broadcast weekdays from 2-6 on the Fifty
Thousand watt station, AM-1530.

What is FAQ?

Answer - Frequently Asked Questions. It's really very simple.

Who is DinoCosta?

Answer - A question that perhaps will never be answered. An enigma? A contradiction? A jerk? A throwback to yesteryear? A stuttering fool? A brilliant word smith? A terrible golfer? A supreme checkers player? The possibilities are truly endless with this question.

Where is he from?

Answer - He was born and raised in New York. BUT...he's lived all over the place. Name a place and Dino has lived their. Baltimore? No, he hasn't lived there. However, Denver, Cleveland, Atlantic City, Davenport, Los Angeles, Huntington, Wheeling, Miami, Jacksonville...he's lived in all those places. For now.

How would you describe his style?

Answer - Refreshingly candid.

What do you mean "refreshingly candid"?

Answer - Well...you will not find a more opinionated sports radio host anywhere else on the dial. Dino projects a radio program that is conviction based, and one that never pays homage to politically correct, mainstream thinking. He kowtows to nobody. Just ask some of the people he's worked for previously.

Can you give examples of that?

Answer - Sure. He believes women should stay out of locker rooms until players are dressed. He considers Hootie Johnson a man of dignity and principle. He believes someone like Martha Burk to be an anti-male feminist. He believes Bud Selig is ruining baseball for future generations of fans. He believes the WNBA is more along the lines of an NBA charity case. He believes that few people care anything about women's pro sports. He believes there is a double standard when it comes to racial dilemmas in athletics. He hates quotas and anything to do with affirmative action. He believes that if you want to dictate the fortunes of a professional franchise then you should go out and buy a team. He's refused to allow program directors the latitude to dictate the terms of his show...and been fired for it. He thinks that most people in his business are rude and obnoxious individuals with little purpose to their lives but to torment others. Examples given.

Race?

Answer - Caucasian. White. Proud to be so.

Ethnicity?

Answer - Irish/Italian The best looking kids come from this mix by the way.

Political affiliation?

Answer - The Constitution Party. www.constitutionparty.com

Spiritual affiliation?

Answer - Jesus Christ alone. The Redeemer. The Saviour. The End All And Be All. The ONLY Way. (See "Faith" link on this site)

Answer- Secular: Searching For Bobby Fisher. Christian: Jesus Of Nazareth.

Favorite Book?

Interests outside of the sporting arena?

Answer - He's a cigar enthusiast sometimes, and a civil war aficionado.

Favorite food?

Answer -Steak. Chicken. Jumbo Cajun Shrimp. Pasta from Mama Costa's kitchen. Turkey Burgers. Philly Cheese steaks with Jalapeno Peppers.

Age?

Answer - Why get caught up in a number? Older today than he was yesterday, yet not as old as he'll be tomorrow.

FYI STUFF

The Dino Costa Show is more than news, information, and commentary, on the sporting world. While it is true that the bulk of the shows content is sports related, the program possesses a host that can clearly articulate his views on myriad topics. This means that you'll often hear commentary and opinion on such topics as politics, current events, and other news worthy items.

CALLERS GROUND RULES

Callers are welcomed to participate on the program provided they fulfill the following criteria:

>Callers need to be at least 21 years of age. The Dino Costa Show has a more mature audience than many sports oriented talk radio programs. The host insists on keeping the sound of any phone callers consistent with the demographic most often listening.

>Callers need to articulate their thoughts and positions on topics in a clear and understandable manner. Callers need to add something to the program, with a comment, idea, question, or thought, that enables the caller to become an interesting part of the proceedings.

>Callers are always identified by their name they give to the call screener. Bob, Jim, Mike, Dan, are examples. Callers are never identified by any slang term or nick name that they may use on other programs previously. "Mister Gator," for instance, never gets to air his opinion on the Dino Costa Show.

>Callers should be prepared to get to their point immediately upon being introduced to the audience.

>If a caller is phoning in with a question or a comment with a scheduled guest, please refrain from asking any questions or making any comments that are off topic while that guest is on the program. Stay consistent with the format of the show.

>Callers are permitted one phone call per program.

>All phone callers are screened and subject to the decision of the call-screener in determining their ability to participate on the program.

CONTENT

The Dino Costa Show is more than just a local Jacksonville based talk radio program. The shows content is diverse, and will be focused on issues and items from a local, regional, and national point of view. The program seeks to incorporate numerous angles into each program, delivering a radio show, that is consistently engaging the hearts and minds of the audience listening.

WHY DON'T ATHLETES MAKE APPEARANCES ON THE SHOW?

Very seldom will The Dino Costa Show feature a current athlete on the program for an interview. The reason for this, is that we feel most of the commentary you will hear from most, if not all athletes, will be the same quotes you get to read in your newspaper. Just about all athletes will give canned and rehearsed, and very predictable answers to questions on a talk radio show. This is boring radio - and something the Dino Costa Show seeks to avoid at all costs. However, often times the program will seek the input from an ex-athlete who is no longer involved in playing the games. These individuals seem to offer much more in the way of interesting and honest views on whatever questions are posed. The program is more likely to feature writers and or columnists on the program, broadcasters, fellow talk hosts, or other sports personalities, who are more than willing to speak their mind on a host of issues included on the show.

TURN DOWN YOUR RADIO WHEN ON HOLD AND WAITING TO GO ON-AIR

This is pretty important. The program is broadcast on a "delayed" signal. That means that what you are hearing on the radio was something that happened seven seconds before you heard it! We do this so that it gives us a moment to cancel a call or a comment that was inappropriate for airing. Also, if you go on the air while your radio is "on" (this includes being in your car), this will create a situation where major "feedback" will often occur. Not something we prefer as you can probably imagine.

WANT AN INTERNSHIP ON THE DINO COSTA SHOW?

Internships are available through the Mighty AM-1530 Creative Works Department. These internships are made available to college students who are able to receive credit towards a potential degree. Internships are available from January through May and from September through December. We schedule interviews 2-3 weeks prior to semesters. I WANT THE DINO COSTA SHOW TO BROADCAST FROM MY BUSINESS

A Very astute move if you are considering this. Live remote broadcasts are available for most any business.
