Greetings from eastern Oregon!!
"Has anyone gotten KEX so clear?"
Yup...'course, being able to see the transmitter up in the Portland hills from your balcony on a clear day helps, too ;o)
Matter of fact my cousin and I are staying in Pendleton, OR right now, and the last couple of nights I have been able to get KEX and KKAD on my Grundig Yacht Boy 400 and my Sony ICF36. Both are a bit scratchy and they do tend to drift, but they are still quite listenable. I don't know what my S-metre reading would be (the Sony doesn't have one and the signal metre on the Grundig is practically worthless for anything other then strong, local signals) but just as an estimate, I'd say it would probably be about 3 or 3 1/2 the last couple of days. (That's taking into account that the metre goes up to 9 or 10.) So tonight I'm going to see if I can catch KXL and KPOJ.
Funny thing about KEX is its IBAC noise. I can't even hear the IBAC on either rig out here, whereas it practically smashes the main analogue signal at home.
In fact, it's a bit surreal. I'm hearing stations that are practically right in my/my folks' backyard (especially with KKAD, the transmitters of which my parents live only a mile and a half south of) just a little more than 200 miles away. It's quite an odd experience, really, as I have never really tried to DX any of those stations around here (Pretty surprised to read that, aren't you? ;o); I usually tend to DX the FMs from eastern Washington.
We're at the Red Lion Indian Hills, looking south toward Pilot Rock. Surprisingly enough, the computer/TV/compact fluorescent light/appliance noise (our room has a microwave and refrigerator!) really isn't that bad. Not as bad as it usually is back at the complex! I was really surprised to notice that.
