KEX gets an FM Translator

The article misstates some facts. KXL is on 101.1FM, not 101.9, which is KINK. KEX's move is not a response to KXL but probably the other way around. KEX has had this in the planning for quite sometime. No one heard a word from KXL until it happened! KEX's lowest rated sister FM is #7. It will be interesting to see how they proceed from here.

Apparently, I am misunderstanding the FCC's supposed reasoning behind granting FM translators for AM signals. I was under the impression that the idea was to assist daytimers and AMs with restricted nighttime signals that handicap their viability. So, how did Alpha justify this to the FCC? After all, the coverage area of the translator is an area which receives a solid signal from 1190 - day and night.

Or did Alpha simply slip a $100 bill into the pocket of the clerk at the FCC's customer service window? Things like this do make you wonder.... :D

Alpha owns KXL. Clear Channel owns KEX and I believe is leasing the translator from WAY-FM, a national Christian broadcaster.
