KEXP Buys KREV

Notification of Consummation filed today!
So, if the notice of consummation is filed, can we assume the Hustle’s time is drawing to a quick close?

Maybe by month’s end or will they wait until the new calls take effect?

BTW, anybody hear any commercials on this incarnation of 92.7? Or has AutoPilot.fm just got the opportunity to play big market radio for free with no revenue?

Or perhaps they were getting paid by the trustee?

AutopilotFM would take over once approved by the court and FCC, paid by the revenue generated from the operations of the stations with the revenue also going towards paying monthly estate expenses and any rolled-forward expenses with any remaining revenue spilt 50/50 between AutoPilotFM and to the trustee on behalf of the estate. There is no obligation to make any payment to AutoPilotFM if no revenue is generated.

Jamie has mentioned that a new antenna is on order; what they're using now is an element repurposed from the Candlestick location and may not be providing optimal results. I wasn't able to detect anything particularly deficient about coverage when I was in the Bay Area two weeks ago, but I was mostly in the East Bay where 92.7 reception isn't especially difficult to start with - the COL is Alameda, after all.

The incentive for the AutoPilot deal was to keep the station warm while the ownership situation was sorted out. That's been done. Really, it's up to KEXP now.

Not to mention HD sidebands from 92.5.
The big limiting factor is the 1500-foot ridge (Grizzly Peak, Redwood Peak, etc.) separating the Oakland side of the Bay from the Diablo Valley. In the car, I've rarely been able to carry 92.7 past Orinda on Highway 24. Conversely, at my former Oakland location, about 1400 feet up the ridge, I could only get a trace of 92.1, transmitting from the Lafayette-Walnut Creek border. Climb 100 feet up the street and go into some open space where I could see the valley to the east and the story was quite different.

Hey folks, new here. I've been pretty excited to get an interesting station in my area so I've been lurking here for the past few weeks. I'm located 25mi away from Sutro Tower and for the past few days the signal has been fairly easy to receive from a humble Sony ICF-P27 even without the antenna extended. A few minutes ago I turned it on and the signal was completely missing, only light static and a very, very faint signal in the background that doesn't sound like KREV. Then, right as I'm sitting down to type this, the signal is back at full strength, which is a bit fascinating and kind of defeats the point of me writing this post, but I'll submit it anyway in case anyone knows what that was about.

Also, non-commercial status seems to have been granted as of 2 days ago. Draft Copy « Licensing and Management System « FCC

I have been in the Bay Area the last few days. The KREV/KEXC move to Sutro looks like a smart one for mobile listeners. Perhaps in-building penetration will be less but it's the in-car that the new coverage will grab.No problem hearing KREV in the East Bay and into some of the shadow areas.

Is this the wife and business partner of the same Larry Patrick who initially tried to wrestle this station's ownership away to VCY?

He didn't try to "wrestle the ownership away". He was a bankruptcy court appointed trustee getting the best sale price he could for the stations, which happened to be just slightly less than than the final sale three years later (but in the long run will bring in less money with three years of lots of additional court fees).

Well I got hammered on this site after leveling some criticism at the tactics being described of this trustee. Even had a post taken down. The message was that he was following the rules and that his integrity shouldn't be questioned.

$10 million in tax evasion, and his wife takes the fall. Nice integrity.

Let's not forget there's been a nice chunk of inflation in those three years, so a dollar now is worth that much less than a dollar was then.

That's not the trustee's fault. He's a lawyer appointed by the bankruptcy court who I'm sure was first introduced to the radio business with this drawn out saga. I have sympathy for him!

Given who he had to deal with, he was doing the Lord’s work.
