KEXP Buys KREV

They did play Take Five during yesterday's Bay Area music marathon though. Listened to it as I walked around Coyote Hills. Got a pretty good signal until I walked behind the hills, but it came back once I started on the return home. Still very surprising to me given the power of the transmitter and how it was before.

Also I never realized Death Grips is from the Bay Area, one of the DJs played I Seen Footage and that caught me off guard. KEXP is always full of surprises

Is there a separate live stream for KEXC? Or @JamieA can you tell us if there will be one?

I normally listen on Sonos, which aggregates most radio stations in its Sonos Radio section. I don't know if it's pulling up KEXP from its own website, TuneIn or elsewhere. I just know I saved it as a favorite a long time ago and it works. Nothing shows up in a search for KEXC on Sonos yet, though, and I don't see it broken out separately on the KEXP website yet either.

If you are in Northern California you should be getting a localized feed w relevant messages/underwriting.

I have family/ties to the Bay area but I'm on the east coast. If there were a separate, addressable KEXC stream it would be nice to be able to hear the Bay area content when the simulcast diverges.

Or...I hear there is a nice FM station for sale in NYC now that you're done with SFO. 😁

Although I would have preferred Take Five by San Francisco residents Dave Brubeck & Paul Desmond. I think Brubeck's sons still live in the area.
Totally fair! It was more reflecting that KJAZ signed on back on August 1, 1959, playing a track from Miles Davis (the exact track played is in dispute). Springsville was the final song KJAZ played in 1994.

Yes, strange that there is no SF feed stream from the station. Maybe it's a work in progress? I think, the format is AAA but not the same AAA like for example SoCal The Sound from LA. That's well formatted with a clear format. I think the format, if there is a format actually goes from lots of classics and the other moment you hear a lot of unfamiliar new and older tracks.

Go to Streaming Archive | KEXP and set the clock for 7:56 AM Eastern Time/4:56 AM Pacific Time.

The 20 seconds of dead air was when the simulcast took effect.View attachment 6765
@rustyhodge out of curiosity, did you capture the flip from your stream this morning?
The "time shown" will adjust depending upon your location;
thus, the simulcast start time was just before 5:00 AM Pacific Time/8:00 AM Eastern Time.

MP3 files of the three KEXP shows involved in the simulcast kickoff:

Variety Mix - Overnight with Mike Ramos - "Countdown to Our Bay Area Launch" - 1 AM - 5 AM Pacific Time

Last hour of the four hour show featured San Francisco-themed tracks.
As mentioned, go to the last 5 minutes of the file to hear the "dead air" after Journey's "Lights" ends .

I gave it a try this afternoon. The signal is very weak on 880 in San Jose. It battles some country station. Couldn't understand anything. Gave up.

I think I am too far south.

Yup — KTOM from Monterrey area. You shouldn’t expect it past Mountain View, sadly. Some of the fringe areas seem to be hindered more by KTOM then the actual signal of KEXC.

We have geotargeting set up with our streaming provider (StreamGuys). So if you are requesting the stream from NorCal you will get the ‘KEXC’ feed.
