KEXP Buys KREV

Thanks to the portable Insignia HD radio, probably the best-sounding HD radio and the only good thing Insignia made. :ROFLMAO:
Your just ignoring the fact I want the Analog version of the Launch, Not Digital..It sounds like a stream

I would have recorded it in Analog Pointing the Camera or my Phone

I mean, if you insist on having a janky-sounding recording I have a 20 minute one I made by setting my phone next to my clock radio (Sony ICF-C1) because I was too lazy to set up my computer for a proper recording at 4:30AM. No video though.

Not exactly sure why you would want this over some very high quality recordings people have made here but whatever floats your boat

Thanks for the links - did you do this on the really small one (NS-HD01)? The batteries on mine aren't holding a charge any more, unfortunately. I used them a lot when I had an office in downtown San Francisco. It was the only way to hear KFOG there without severe multipath distortion.

Yes, strange that there is no SF feed stream from the station. Maybe it's a work in progress? I think, the format is AAA but not the same AAA like for example SoCal The Sound from LA. That's well formatted with a clear format. I think the format, if there is a format actually goes from lots of classics and the other moment you hear a lot of unfamiliar new and older tracks.
If you go back in this thread, you'll see that it is something of a work in progress, with plans eventually for separate Bay Area-oriented programs, but just not right at the start. No doubt listener response will be an important element in those decisions.

Edit: I should clarify that what I'm referring to is Bay Area-specific programming. The base KEXP eclectic programming and philosophy, for lack of a better term, is part of the package, and part of the expected attraction.

Yeah, that is the one. Mine has managed to still last even after lots of airchecking.

Or one of the worst ever. Terrible boring stunt, and no one who doesn’t know radio knows what happened 🤣
This is like criticizing a book because the prologue kind of wandered around, never mind the next 300 or 400 pages.

The stunt perfectly captured the ethereal - and ephemeral - nature of radio. The Bay Area once had one of the most innovative and creative radio markets in the country, which is where all that rich history comes from. The stunt brought all that together, as if echoes from a distant past. I wasn't a part of that - during the Summer of Love I was a 10-year-old stuck in the bowels of southern Iowa - so I appreciate the bits and pieces that I heard. That's what memories are like for a lot of people, anyway. Memories are echoes that remind us of the real thing.

There was also the need to cleanse the Alameda station of its recent history. Three days might not have been enough for that, but it was a start.

I'm not going to argue that KEXP's going to kick-start any kind of revival of the Bay Area spirit that's been smothered by the money-grubbing and mindless posturing of selfish Silicon Valley billionaires who pretend to be counter-cultural but who are really just childish robber barons, but KEXP can be a reminder of what can be captivating when done well. The stunt was an announcement of intent; the really interesting part is going to be seeing how the programming that arises from that intent resonates with its potential audience.

I think (hope) he meant the post as sarcasm.
Long experience has taught me that sarcasm in online forums generally doesn't work, though sometimes it's irresistible. The other principle is that a post complaining about spelling or grammatical errors will inevitably have spelling or grammatical error.

Kudos to @JamieA who produced the 2-hour loop, according to the linked article. Great work, Jamie -- fantastic and fun!
+1!

I'm kind of surprised we didn't get more negative responses. But honestly, it was very rewarding to see folks on here appreciating it. Someone early on in this thread expressed a hope that we would do a stunt, and that started the creative process. So thanks! I learned a lot about the great radio history of this market and had a lot of fun making it.

THANK YOU.

Radio nerds don't get a ton of stunting anymore.

More importantly, radio people don't get enough props for their hard work, especially when they pour their heart and soul into it. Thanks, Jamie. I finally got to hear most of it (via streaming*) while outside doing yard work, and it was superb!

(*Unfortunately, I am, as we'd discussed, in a fringe area, and it takes just the right radio and antenna to have a listenable OTA signal here. A mile away and it's a major improvement.)
