KEXP Unveils New Programming Schedule Focusing On Broader Diversity

https://radioinsight.com/headlines/...mming-schedule-focusing-on-broader-diversity/

It is one of these discussions on how to reform and respond to diversity.

Amidst recent station record ratings, Friends of KEXP’s AAA 90.3 KEXP-FM Seattle has announced it will debut a new programming lineup on July 27 centered as “an initial public step in advancing KEXP’s commitment to becoming an anti-racist organization, and are aimed at making the station’s music programming stronger overall.”

The changes include the promotion of KEXP hosts Gabriel Teodros and Larry Mizell, Jr. to the weekday schedule as well as adding leadership duties at the station. Teodoros will be Associate Music Director and host from 5-7am, while Mizell is Director of Editorial, 1-4pm host and co-host of Sound & Vision.

I'll admit up front that I don't listen to KEXP, and haven't since grunge days, so I really don't know how they operate today.

But in the late 80's and early 90's, KCMU (KEXP's predecessor) had plenty of shows that highlighted POC music (a rap show, a reggae show, an African music show, and they played a lot of world music also), and also their other programming often contained alternative, progressive, and POC points of view.

Has their presentation 'whitened' that much over the past 30 years?

They now have the KEXP BECU Debit Card too.

Remember those 15th Anniversary KISW Gold Cards in 1986? They weren't real debit/credit cards, just a promo thing for discounts. Had mine in my wallet for nearly 30 years until it practically disintegrated.

Still have my KISW card in a box somewhere. Have a few of the Top 1000/999 lists that you could pick up at Schuck's (or Al's Auto Supply?)

I got one at the Lynnwood Fred Meyer Music Market in the '80s. I think that's where I got the card too.
