The Classic Rock information was wrong. The format is Adult Hits... Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Foreigner, Dead or Alive, Prince, Cure, Eagles, Bryan Adams, Billy Idol, and Blondie in the mix. Very 80's heavy with some 90's and 70's

NEVER AGAIN.
Farewell, my sweet alternative/modern rock/whatever-the-hell-you-want-to-call-it music!
Dave Pratt can kiss my a**. I don't care about him, that silly station, or constantly reliving the past over & over...

Saladressing said:Hmm, a duplicate format on a fringe signal. As someone mentioned above, the market already has this format on The Peak & KDKB. Then again, with a 0.8 rating and after getting defeated by stations such as KLVK-FM, KFLR-FM and KBAQ-FM, maybe they figure chipping into the combined 6.7 share of KPKX and KDKB would be an improvement.
Still, would have tried AAA before this. That way, if AAA didn't work could have easily segued back to alt. the way it's done in most markets (Seattle, Kansas City, Denver, etc.) with more of a current lean. X103.9 was pretty much alt. gold for the last few years, was very heavy on the repeats and sounded almost NOTHING like it did when it was getting decent ratings as The Edge even while up against direct competition from 101.5 The Zone on a full signal. A fringe signal needs a niche market generally speaking. The owners of KNRJ and KAJM seem to understand this. The owners of 98.3 and 103.9 used to follow this model as well.
Why are they calling it "Gen X music"? It's 80s-based.
Weird to drop 103.9 down to the third set of presets.

Yet when you listen to the GM and PD speak to the Republic, all of the core artists they mention could be considered classic rock. The only thing you mention above that isn't classic rock is Dead or Alive, Prince, & the Cure.
So it's definitely rock based - reminiscent of the Randy Kabrich Point stations of the early 2000's, and similar to what Mix signed on with (remember the "80's, 90's... and 70's" slogan?). I'm not sure if I'd brand it as Gen-X radio (it's a little too 80's classic rock to be Gen-X) but it's an oldies station for someone in their late 30's-early 40's.
I would be a lot more excited for this had stations like Mix not hammered most of these songs to death over the past 10 years. The wow factor of finding Bon Jovi and the Cure on the same station kind of subsided around 2001.
