KEXX Goes Adult Hits

The Classic Rock information was wrong. The format is Adult Hits... Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, Foreigner, Dead or Alive, Prince, Cure, Eagles, Bryan Adams, Billy Idol, and Blondie in the mix. Very 80's heavy with some 90's and 70's

It was still on in my car from yesterday when I got in today...and "Beth" was playing.
NEVER AGAIN.

Farewell, my sweet alternative/modern rock/whatever-the-hell-you-want-to-call-it music!

Dave Pratt can kiss my a**. I don't care about him, that silly station, or constantly reliving the past over & over...

Well, you would think that since their website is asking for our input as far as the type of music we would like to hear, that they would play what we want to hear, right? So if we all selected alternative titles, would they play them? I'm skeptical.

If people wanted to hear Alternative music, it would not have had a 0.8 ... and I don't want to hear about "doing it right" blah blah blah...

Hmm, a duplicate format on a fringe signal. As someone mentioned above, the market already has this format on The Peak & KDKB. Then again, with a 0.8 rating and after getting defeated by stations such as KLVK-FM, KFLR-FM and KBAQ-FM, maybe they figure chipping into the combined 6.7 share of KPKX and KDKB would be an improvement.

Still, would have tried AAA before this. That way, if AAA didn't work could have easily segued back to alt. the way it's done in most markets (Seattle, Kansas City, Denver, etc.) with more of a current lean. X103.9 was pretty much alt. gold for the last few years, was very heavy on the repeats and sounded almost NOTHING like it did when it was getting decent ratings as The Edge even while up against direct competition from 101.5 The Zone on a full signal. A fringe signal needs a niche market generally speaking. The owners of KNRJ and KAJM seem to understand this. The owners of 98.3 and 103.9 used to follow this model as well.

Why are they calling it "Gen X music"? It's 80s-based.

Weird to drop 103.9 down to the third set of presets.

Yet when you listen to the GM and PD speak to the Republic, all of the core artists they mention could be considered classic rock. The only thing you mention above that isn't classic rock is Dead or Alive, Prince, & the Cure.

So it's definitely rock based - reminiscent of the Randy Kabrich Point stations of the early 2000's, and similar to what Mix signed on with (remember the "80's, 90's... and 70's" slogan?). I'm not sure if I'd brand it as Gen-X radio (it's a little too 80's classic rock to be Gen-X) but it's an oldies station for someone in their late 30's-early 40's.

I would be a lot more excited for this had stations like Mix not hammered most of these songs to death over the past 10 years. The wow factor of finding Bon Jovi and the Cure on the same station kind of subsided around 2001.

AAA is a struggling format in PPM - good luck with that.

Alternative is on life support with the plug pulled in Chicago, New York, Vegas (1 of them), San Jose, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Boston (rimxhost WFNX is left),and Baltimore to name a few.

KROQ loses half their ratings at 10am. KBZT is steady low 1 share in San Diego, Live 105 is generally fighting for a 2.0 share. Comparing shares in PPM to diary is apples and oranges. 103.9 was programmed by the his people -same person who had the highest numbers ever so it wasnt him or his staff. The format is simply not viable in certain situations. Indie/L.A. listeners whined and complained too and the station has three times the listeners as the 4th Regional mexican choice in L.A. on a rimshot

It's not branded as Gen X anywhere if someone absolutely listened. Listeners don't read press releases, radio geeks do. Listeners hear the songs they like. Gen X is people born approximatley 1964-1981 so that makes them basically 31-47 or in that range. 35-44 is probably the ten-year age range for Gen X person... Problem we have is Gen X was tainted as a 90's format which technically was wrong.

Not a duplicate format Mr. Salad. Name one station playing this music mix?

Many stations duplicate songs that are already being played in the market.

It is how they present them.

You might hear Eurythmics on KOOL, KESZ, and Peak, but you won't hear Guns N' Roses and Def Leppard, which you'll hear on KDKB and KSLX.

It's all how it's arranged.

BTW, the owners of 104.3 and KNRJ have been barely profitable (if that) for years so why would anyone want to follow their recipe? Exclusive format only works if it generates numbers and 104.3 no longer has an exclusive format, 95.5 is the same thing.

BTW, if you want duplicate formats, explain to me KMVA, KZZP, and KZON... all three Top 40's
