Keymarket Changes in East Liverpool OH

On Nov 1 Keymarket flipped WOHI AM 1490 to ESPN Radio.WOHI's used to air Music Of Your Life format. Also the local swap and shop program and other local programming. There is a lot of very upset people about this change. WOHI has been on the air almost 57 years I believe. So no wonder people are upset about the format change.

Today in The East Liverpool Review, the office space they lease is set to expire in Feb 2006. So now Keymarket is looking for office space in the area, maybe Midland or Center PA. Also WOGF 104.3 is now a total simulcast of WOGI 98.3. All you hear on 104.3 is local commericals and jingles. You can read more in the East Liverpool Review links are below.

Please read the article. Is Frank Bell of Keymarket Communications not the dumbest person on earth? He says "No Comment" and then comments. Remaining competitive with ESPN sports? You must be kidding me. It is a cheap format to run off the bird. That's all.

Keymarket may be one of the worst operations around. They screw up about everything they touch. WOGI has been a great success (not!)

I guess cheap is the word. Read some of the earlier articles from the East Liverpool Review about religion programs canceled. It suprised me that they kicked the 2- Church of Christ programs off the air...thats right are they too cheap to pay a board op to run paid programming ? I'll be curious to see what happens this weekend with the paid programing ( religion and ethnic) on WSTV & WOMP-Am. If these programs are off WSTV-WOMP I hope they pop up on WEIR in the near future. No doubt the owners of 1430 know how to take care of advertisers!

Keymarket has been know to flip formats moving people around. They just want to save money any way they can. Pittsburgh doesn't need 4 Froggy stations at all. All four stations transmitters are located within the Burg Market. WOGF 104.3 is in Beaver County. WOGF 103.5 is in Washington County. WOGI 98.3 in Allegheny, and WOGG 94.9 in Fayette County. Ratings is what they want. But sooner or later people will get tired of frogs and boring format that Keymarket thinks is great.

What I found most amusing was the comment from the owner; "the decision to reformat the station has not affected current WOHI 1490 employees." Unless the brass is splitting hairs, methinks Jim Martin would disagree. For many listeners (and more or less in reality since the early 90s), Jim *was* WOHI!

It's business, but it still stinks to high heaven...IMHO.

This would be a sign that there's going to be no local operation in East Liverpool.

For the life of me I never understood the concept behind what they were doing with the 4 frogs. They'd simulcast the AM drive with Jimmy, then run "local" programming, but if you ever flipped around they had different jocks playing the EXACT same music schedule, I guess on the thoery that they could then sell multiple local ad schedules, but a simulcast on 2 signals and something else on the other two always would have made more sense.

Likewise, why not get Jimmy's show into Youngstown, Meadville/Franklin, Johnstown and Altoona. I knwo technically some of those are "Forever" stations, but it's all the same people at the top.

Boy you got that right. Keymarket is now better know as the Networked-Synicated company. Everything revolves around their baby, Froggy 98 in the Burgh. A dinky signal that can't compete in the Pittsburgh market so they use their 3 others Frogs & their employees as pawns. Even with 4 Frogs hogging up our dials, they still can't beat out Y-108 in the ratings & they never will. A once cute gimick has become stale, along with the same old contests that continue to run. Aren't we all tired Hoppin'On The Froggy Payroll by now?

Keymarket also flipped it's Wheeling station, WOMP to JACK last week, again sending more faithful employees out the door. Only Cyndi Taylor & a board op remain. What's funny, Bell & company continue to tell the press & others, that although changes have been made, NO jobs were lost. LIES!!!!

Keymarket is truely a Good Ol'Boys club and is made up of close friends & even spouses. They treat the rest of their employees like dirt & have different rules for every jock on the air. They NEVER promote air talent from within & ALWAYS go OUTSIDE the Pittsburgh Market anytime a full-time position does open up. Part-Timers, if you're spending your holidays & weekends working for this company, making your whopping $8.50 an hour, hoping down the road, you'll obtain a full-time shift, you're WASTING your time.

What goes around, eventually comes around. Can't wait for Frank, Gerald & the rest of the Good Ol'Boys to fall on the butts! Keep On Froggin Boys!!!!!

You are right about the 4 frogs, same format clock and the music schedule. I don't know if any of you ever listened to 98.3 WOGI. During the times they weren't simulcasting they only had maybe 1 or 2 min ads in each break. So I guess Keymarket thought well if we simulcast on WOGF 104.3 all day, we can make it look like we sell more ad time on 98.3. When all 4 four are simulcasting sometimes you hear at least 5 or 6 min of ad time in each break. I think Keymarket should sell off WOGF 104.3 and WOHI AM 1490. If they can only simulcast and have ESPN on radio why own the station.

Forever Broadcasting and Burbach are all in with Keymarket. Burbach mainly has stations in Morgantown/Clarksburg and Parkersburg WV. Don't worry they have a Froggy in all those markets too. Morgantown/Clarksburg has Froggy 102.7/92.7. In Parkersburg they have Froggy 99.1. They also own WXIL 95.1 in Parkersburg.

I could see maybe putting Jimmy's Show in those markets. But if you do that anywhere you go it would froggy and Jimmy Roach and The Green Team. I mean Jimmy has always had a good show on other stations. With Froggy it is dull and boring to me. Say a few things, give the weather, sports and back into music. Froggy is starting to become another boring radio station. Froggy in the Burg hardly ever play any oldies,a few from time to time. Sorry I wrote so much, sometimes I get carried away.

Sorry but Jimmy Roach & the Green Team are down right borring & dull. It's bad enough they're taking up 4 spaces on the dail already!

Yes, Jimmy Roach and Wendy Green show is so boring and dull. Wait Keymarket has always been boring and dull. Look they have two formats Pickle and Froggy. The Pickle is off the bird, same goes for Kool 105 in Wheeling. Froggy is just the same but with some people behind the mic in Pittsburgh, Uniontown PA and Steubenville.

Trying to "swamp" the competition?

(Sorry, couldn't resist)

Yes, these people are idiots and don't have a clue. They just made WWL, Wink 104 in Harrisburg, WKRZ in Scranton, WFGY Altoona, and KFRG in San Bernadino into virtual gold mines....Just to name a few!
