Keymarket on the move in Wheeling

Call letters not included.

With Kiss a solid runner up in the Wheeling market, I wonder out loud if WOMP returns to 100.5 and JACK moves to 96.5? Jack isn't exactly setting the world on fire.

I don't think WOVK is beatable at this point. At least not by the Froggy style, complete with cheese DJ names.
You may pull some shares away from them, but they'd still be #1. You would need to take 9 shares away from them and I can't see that happening.

From a cluster standpoint, going CHR makes the most sense. Kool is tied for 3rd, if you're able to pull Kiss down, you have a #2 station in the market in Kool. By keeping Jack on 96.5, it takes just enough numbers away from Eagle to keep it from going back into double-digits. Retool Jack slightly to focus more on the Classic Rock, and I bet it would perform slightly better. It remains jockless so you're spending no money on it.

You can also then package all 3 FMs. Want to reach the 18-34 and 18-49 audience on WOMP? We'll toss in Jack, they cover 25-54. Want to reach the 35-64 audience on Kool? We'll toss in Jack, and give you 25-54 as well. WOMP could also be sold partly on brand recognition alone. People fondly remember it. Keymarket lacks any strong brand right now. Clear Channel has the 4 biggest in the market in WOVK, Eagle, WK and WWVA.

Knowing Keymarket's love for Froggy though, your scenario wouldn't surprise me.

It will be interesting to see how 96.5 Johnstown (Forever) is adjusted to allow a move by 96.5 Moundsville/Wheeling (Keymarket).

Johnstown's 96.5 is shaded by being on one side of the mountain looking down into the valley, and it barely makes it into Westmoreland county. 95.5 is another story, they blast all over Western PA.

But with Moundsville's CP calling for a lower antenna my guess is that Johnstown won't have to do anything.

I think WOMP comes back but this time on 96.5

It's certainly possible. I don't know if it would be the best decision however. The new 96.5 contour will be smaller than 95.7 and their's is already small to start with. It's hemmed in by WCMJ 96.7 in Cambridge, Ohio.

Speaking of 95.7 KISS, their longtime PD Mac has exited in budget cuts I gather?

If WOMP were to make a comeback it would be nice to see them on 100.5 because KISS fm always had a week signal and having a CHR on a strong signal would be good. I'd let Jack FM move to 96.5 and not frog out wheeling.

Remember WCMJ is going Full Class A at 102.7 soon, allowing 96.7 to move over by Newark. This will give them a little more space to work with in the future.

They could sell 103.5, but to who? Martz?
