Earlier in the day, a massive blood letting happened at Entercom Wichita with rumors of a major announcement happening soon. From listening to KEYN's stream, I noticed a sweeper for "The Best Variety of Lite Favorites 103.7 KEYN" made it on-air. They haven't used that moniker before or since. Looks like a format change may be on-the-way. Could even more changes be coming?

who all got let in the blood letting?
From what I've heard, John Speer and Bekki Gardner from KEYN were let go. KFH fired its only full-time employee, which was the morning show producer. That leads me to think a format change could happen there, too, or that Walton and Johnson will run automated a lot easier than Imus did. KNSS 1330 lost its morning show co-host. Its traffic reporter was also laid off. KDGS lost its midday girl, and 105.3 The Buzz lost someone as well, though I'm not sure who.
I doubt any of the layoffs occurred in the business office...
If the sweeper is accurate, Entercom may be turning their guns toward the station that owns the most sought Arbitron points of all, B-98's soccer moms.
Another thing to watch for is whether or not they split the KFH simulcast. It's possible oldies could end up on one of those signals. If they go that route, expect it to largely be off the bird. It could also give an early Christmas present to some stations outside the metro with the reduction in coverage.

It certainly sounds that way. A friend of mine tells me they've definitely scaled back their rotations over the last few days. The same artists seem to be coming up hour-after-hour, even more than usual. If they operate like Kansas City, they're using AudioVault. It certainly sounds that way as AudioVault is one of the sloppiest for voicetracking and streaming, and every shift I've heard since getting off work this afternoon has sounded voicetracked. The ad replacement goes over the last half second or so of the jock's voicetrack; the sec tone cues it.

I suspect any change on the KFH simulcast would be either off-the-bird or voicetracked.

I can vouch for Entercom Wichita, since I worked at KDGS (Power 93.9) for 4 years. They use Prophet NexGen. I helped with the transition from the Prophet Wizard to what they are using now.

Thanks for the info, JoJo. I'm kinda surprised to hear the very last of the voicetrack getting cut off since Prophet used to be pretty slick on ad replacement, or so I've been told. Of course, Prophet is one of two major systems I haven't used (ENCO being the other). So, I'm only going on what I've heard. I guess that's a holdover from the days Clear Channel/AMFM owned some of those stations?

No, they were owned by Triathalon (then the DOJ put them in trust). KDGS until 2000 were owned by Ann & Gary Violet (the original owners of KBUZ when it was in Ark City on the 106.5 freq-now Radio Lobo and on the 99.1 freq-now K-LOVE). When I was at Power, we were live, no VT whatsoever. They might be doing it now, I don't know.
