KEZ Drops Delilah

Just did a quick search and found out KEZ has dropped Delilah. I know this probably isn't a very relevant story to the message board posters here. I wondered why I hadn't heard her in a while.

http://www.phoenixairchecks.com/kez-replaces-delilah/

Lori Bradley is the replacement.

I also realize I'm gonna get some flack for this but I actually enjoyed Delilah and I am a guy, she's got some good oldies that I've noticed are rarely played elsewhere.

Any idea why she was dropped?

Inside scoop?

Speaking of which, I've always wondered how a show like her's works? Is it live and local for each time zone or is it taped for east coast (7 p.m -Mid.) (4 p.m. - 9 p.m. on west coast) and then just re-fed to each subsequent time zone? I would imagine 8 hours on the air would be a long shift?

Though I have no inside knowledge of how Delilah truly works, what I suspect happens is that Delilah takes calls for the time period and selects whatever song she picks adjacent to it, but that someone else is running the board or that she boxes up her talkups. I sincerely doubt that her stuff is "live". It's not too tough to run a show for 8 hours when you have a computer running the elements.

Is Lori Bradley the one responsible for playing the trance remix of "Listen to your heart" by DHT during the weather apocalypse? Is she in control of the music played during her slot? Whoever decided to play it, I love her.

I wonder will another Phoenix station pick up The Delilah show? I'm sure it's popular and KEZ got some decent ratings from it.

You like what you like. I'm glad you started this thread. I don't listen to nighttime radio much but turned to Delilah and she did play some good songs. I didn't know the show was gone.

My understanding and I could be wrong but Deliah while "streamed" on Satellite at 7pm is actually programmed in advance. Deliah's breaks are canned in advance and her show comes in multiple flavors... an Modern AC version and a Gold AC and at Christmas stations also get an option of Christmas version instead of the AC version.. all fed via satellite.

There's several flavors. There's the generic voice track version where you insert your own music, there's satellite delivered AC, etc. All is canned in advance - nothing is live. She could be running 2 year old phone calls, it's so bland. She does a 5 hour show that repeats to cover the time zones.

This is the second major affiliate to pull the plug. B-101 in Philly also dropped her recently. Why pay cash and/or barter spots for a canned show when you can track it yourself and keep all the sales inventory for yourself?

Seemed like every time I came across Delilah, she was talking to some down-trodden, heartbroken soul... (in a heavy Southern accent) "Well, Delilah, my worthless common-law husband done ran off with his cousin Amber, and the double wide split in half last week, and my 84 Ford Grenada needs a new alternator, and I, I just doan know what I'm a gonna do... Can you play somethin to cheer me up? Uh oh, gotta go, tornado sirens."

...shore 'nuff, down-trodden & heartbroken soul. Here's something as gooey as Kay-row syrple by Michael Bolton. Ya know, I thinks he looked mo bedder with a mullet! :D ;D :D

Surprising that Clear Channel would allow one of their own stations to drop one of their own (Premiere) shows, unless the ratings really were stinking up the place.

Here's another thought why: The PPM. With some stations adopting a more music approach to mornings and other dayparts..really shutting up the jocks....Delilah could be in trouble in all PPM markets. The PPM has been very unfriendly to jock talk. But the answer isn't to shut up all jocks...make sure you have a staff who connects with the audience.

I suspected as much. I just didn't want to bring it to light because truly -- I know no better. :-[

PPM hasn't killed Delilah in Houston yet. It's not hard to win nights with adults because so many of them are watching TV. But with 99% of the callers sounding like castoffs from the Dave Ramsey show calling from the deep south, it's really hard to make an emotional connection with the show. Delilah has become a parody of herself. It's not worth the barter, especially if you can track it for $14/day or plug in Premium Choice for free.

The jock who did a long running love songs show that was replaced by Delilah in Houston in a cost cutting move is now my insurance agent. Thanks, Clear Channel!

The part about Delilah that was so great to me was the inspirational component to her show. Going into most stop sets she would talk about life, what's important, the value in building relationships with others, etc, etc. Honestly, there were a few nights of working late that Delilah helped me recognize what was truly important in life.

Sounds cheesy, I realize. But her show was more than just the callers...

Anyone else appreciate this component of her show?

Yes I agree completely with you. Part of the reason I also enjoyed her show.

Hope she comes back, I e-mailed Beth & Bill, hope to get a an answer, I'm wondering if they can even comment about staff changes?

KYXY in San Diego dropped Delialah, too. I believe the station (KYXY) was the second station in the nation to do a love songs show modeled after KOST in LA. They have been doing a local love songs show since around 1988 or so. They had beaten Delilah numerous times when other stations brought her to the market but in a cost cutting "adventure" (I think) they tried a version of John Test love songs a few years back...what a mess that was...then gave Delilah a shot, too. Now KYXY is back live and local with an English guy doing the show. Sounds like it's boxed.

It's always fantastic news to hear Dbitch has been dropped. She's a horrible disgrace to radio and shame on the stations that have plugged her into line ups. That is a serious lack of putting effort into programming.

I cringe every time I scan across her show. Always on talking some poor sap with no self confidence and preaching about lifes values.

If u want that type of inspiration go read 'chicken noodle soup for the soul'.

Bottom line good ridance to a waste of radio airspace.

I'm a woman and I can't listen to the show. It's so sappy it makes one want to run outside and hug, kiss, and do bad things to the trees.

Maybe soon Delilah might have no or very few (mainly small market) affiliates left ;D

Ah, that's too bad for those of you who don't appreciate Delilah. I have to disagree that all of her callers are saps with no confidence. She actually has quite a few callers who have a great deal of confidence in themselves and have found true love - whether that's a significant other, family, friends, a best friend, etc.

Those who don't appreciate her may be the ones who should listen the most closely to her advice...
