KEZ Goes All Christmas Today

At 7:00 AM Local Time KEZ officially went all Christmas.

Bristol Palin advances to the finals.

Charlie Rangel gets his.

And KEZ is now all Ho-Ho-Ho Music.

What more could we ask for this holiday season?

I was watching KSAZ's morning show when they did the Beth segment. Behind her she had Christmas goodies up when she announced their Christmas music. Then she turned around and tugged on her stocking and the whole thing came tumbling down.

Not to worry though....they had it back up for her second segment.

Ho, ho, freakin' ho!

maybe it is just me but I cant listen to christmas music until about dec 20th.

And still no sign of Fairy Tale of New York by The Pogues, the only Christmas song that matters. Just gotta show some love for that song again before it's forgotten (again). I don't suppose there any suits reading this message board who can get the track added...?

A) It's only vaguely a Christmas song (just because the action of a song takes place around the holidays, it isn't necessarily a holiday song; this goes for you too, Same Old Lang Syne).

B) Given the content and themes of the tune, you'd have trouble getting it by the PD/MD at any commercial station this side of The X. Ain't no way in the world a lite station, of all things, is gonna play a song about junkies and drunk tanks, no matter how Christmasy, let alone one that drops Mark Knopfler's favorite nickname for Prince.

I bet he could have requested that song on XM Saturday Night with Bill Hutton. There was nothing Lucy wouldn't play if you requested it during that amazing request show. Still miss it after all these years. :(

It was in rotation on Special XMas (R.I.P.) and aired last holiday season on The Spectrum, The Loft, SXMU, The Virus (they do a holiday-music special) and Faction, so it wouldn't have been at all out of place on Lucy. (And, in fact, it wasn't; it was played during Lucy's final holiday season in 2007.)

Unfortunately, the closest terrestrial analogue any of those stations has in Phoenix radio is KEXX. AAA died here with the pre-Free KZON, and there's been nothing resembling a real college FMer in the mumbleflump number of years I've lived in the Valley.

Wonder when, at some point someone in programming will convince a station to start the Christmas music the day after Halloween!

Didn't former KOOL-FM PD Kris try that (for Halloween weekend, then full-bore as of the
following weekend) during the ill-fated "KOOL Kristmas" in 2008?

Christmas music sucks. Same 15 songs for last 60 years, and always some jackball celeb that has to come out with an album that is terrible.

Back when I listened to talk radio, the worst thing ever was Limbaugh endlessly playing Mannheim Steamroller and wetting himself about how great they were.

But, someone is listening to this crap, so someone is making some dough.

Then you'll be happy to hear the Dancing With The Stars contestants have a Christmas CD this year featuring Bristol Palin and Tom DeLay dueting on Little Drummer Boy. Now if that doesn't top Mannheim Steamroller, you'll never be in the Christmas Winter Holiday mood!

Which means my KEZ preset (#2) has been removed from my car radio until ater January 1, 2011. I'm not a scrooge, it's just that this is WAY too soon for me.

Serious question...

Does this stuff work in the PPM universe?

I mean, KEZ used to get a Christmas gift every year because of the fact that - whether they listened to it or not - people remembered KEZ as "the station that plays the Christmas music."

The Purple People Meter doesn't care about what you THINK you're listening to, so KEZ no longer gets credit for Christmas music played in the malls, over every Muzak system in Maricopa County, and other random instances of holiday tunes.

So does the PPM data support the idea that on or around Thanksgiving people in the Valley switch en masse to KEZ?
